Need info on tubes, tonsils, adnoids, sleep apnea and recommendations for ENTS-Updated
I took Juliette for her sleep apnea test. She stoped breathing 22 times in an hour.
She needs her tonsils and adnoids removed, and she needs tubes put in her ears. However, I found out yesterday that for her, it is more complicated. The thing that hangs in the back of her throat is deformed. I forgot what you call it. But instead of it being in one piece, hers is split down the middle and is in two pieces. It makes her have a weak palate. They said that she could have had a speech impediment and she will need speech therapy. But worst of all, it may be so soft after the surgery that the food will not be pushed to the back of her throat, it may go out her nose when she eats. I am devastated and in shock taht something so routine may have so many complications for my baby.
They want me to come in to discuss the risks before I decide. He upset me because he said YOU NEVER NOTICED HER SNORING???? I have told my pediatrician since I have brought her home from the hospital that she snores like a man.
So I need some really good recommendations of ENT's if you have any. I have my second opinion today and I am going to keep booking them until I find the best.
TIA ********************************
Thanks everyone, I had her see two doctors yesterday. Both agreed that her uvula does not look split, however her tonsils are so large that they may be pushing the piece together. They are teh size of walnuts. My pediatrician and the two doctors yesterday do not feel that there will be any problems, and that if there are, it will be a less than 1% chance. They have no choice but to operate though and do the tubes at the same time. Her hearing has already been affected and her apnea is pretty bad. I really liked one of the two doctors we saw, and it was not only his manner with Juliette but he didn't treat me like a moron like the other doctor did. Also, both agreed that we can wait until the end of the summer. It was not as immediate as the first guy stated. I am still going back to the first guy on Thursday just to see what he has to say. Can't hurt, right?
Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I did get one of these doctors through someone who swore by him.
Laurie

Oh Laurie!!! You've always said that Juliette 'snores like a man.' I'm glad you went to another doctor that doesn't treat you like a moron. Some doctors just $uck.

I just wanted to wish you best wishes for DD.
We're going through something similiar here and I cringe on what the results will be from the ENT.
