Need inspiration for DS's nursery

I'm so lost. We're not ready to start it just yet as I'm only 17.3 weeks, but I've been trying to get some inspiration by looking on different websites. NOTHING! NOTHING at all inspires me Chat Icon

I don't know if I really want to go with a theme. DH and I are big baseball fans and I'm sure baseball will be incorporated in DS's room someplace, but I also don't want to make that the central point (esp being that I'm a yankee fan and DH is a mets fan - it's conflicting and a sore point to begin with Chat Icon ). I'm 99% sure we're doing wainscoating for the bottom half of the walls and we both really like the look of cherry color wood for the furniture. Please help. I've looked all over houzz.com and Project Nursery and nothing jumps out at me. I don't even know what color I want to paint the walls Chat Icon

ETA: This is the crib that I'm in love with - color and all (obviously not the bedding as we're having a Chat Icon but I haven't even found bedding that I like yet either). Don't know if that will help with any ideas

You don't need a theme per se. Jmho though... I think a color scheme is easier to do than a theme, because once the baby is here and gets older you don't need to worry about changing too much. When s/he is older you do the theme that s/he wants. Kwim??

You said both you and DH are baseball fans. Since you aren't fans of the same team what about a general baseball theme? I love the idea of a vintage baseball theme.

Like the PP mentioned, though, a theme is not necessary. You can always just have a color scheme instead. DS's room doesn't have a theme either. It's 2 different shades of blue. A light blue on 3 walls and dark navy (like Yankee blue) as an accent wall. Accent color (light fixture/blinds, etc.) will be red. He has espresso colored furniture.

I looked at some of HGTV's website to get some ideas. I think we are looking more towards beachy stuff. I know what you mean, NOTHING is perfect (oh $600 bedding may) but HGTV is good.

I think it is totally OK to not have a theme for the nursery, and remember themes don't have to be based on a sport, team, animal, etc. You can just take a color that you love and go from there and find ways to tie everything in!

As a mom of an almost 3 year old, and expecting another-- I really don't think you need a theme at all.

I suggest just finding colors you like, that can grow with your child-- nothing too baby--ish. Browse through tons of bedding sets to find a color scheme once you find bedding you like. Or you can just do basics.

You can add decor items and other things that can be swapped out as your child gets older. Remember, you will redo the room again in a few years when they move to a bed, etc.

Thanks for all the tips girls! The more I think about it the less I like the theme idea. I think I just need to find some color patterns that I really like and work from there. Thanks so much again!!! Chat Icon

Re: Need inspiration for DS's nursery

Im right there with you. For some reason I feel uninspired. I just bought a classic pooh border which will go around most of the room (I live in a cape) and Pooh themed bedding but then I want some nature/boy themed stuff for the wall but can't seem to find anything I like.

Re: Need inspiration for DS's nursery

I have stripes on my sons wall (light blue and navy blue) and I love how it looks!

The rest of the walls are light blue.
