Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope: UPDATE
I had a consult with New Hope yesterday and I have an appt. with Cornell (Dr. Chung) on July 15th. Dr Zhang at New Hope recommended the mini IVF which would be about $4800. I know that it will be about three times this if I go to Cornell. We are running out of $$. We can either do one cycle at Cornell or a few at New Hope. What would you do? New Hope only transfers 1 embryo at a time and promotes "mini" or "natural" ivf. I should just wait for my consult at Cornell and then make a decision right? I'm worried if it doesn't work on the 1st try at Cornell then we will be out of options (and broke).
UPDATE 7/7- We will not be going forward with New Hope after all. I ran into some issues with them and so I have decided to stop cycling there. I am looking forward to my appt. at Cornell next week. I am anxious to get going with IVF #2!

Personally, I would go with Cornell. I don't like the idea of transfering only one embryo. I think it really reduces your chances. It just makes me nervous. Unless there is a physical reason why you should only transfer one, I wouldn't do it.

Re: Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope
I have seen alot of girls bring up New Hope and I looked at info I found on line. And I would DEFINATELY go to Cornell. Personally, I chose LIIVF on the island, There results are just as good as cornell and its local. But if I was going to go all the way into the city, I would only go to the best. I know New Hope is cheap but according the the cdc data, there results are abyssmal. I know they put back one alot but then there results should be half of cornell not more than 1/4. and I know its cheaper but you'd have to cycle like 4x to get as good results as Cornell. I posted the link to their data. https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_PublicMultYear.aspx?ClinicPKID=2273
and here is cornell's: https://www.sartcorsonline.com/rptCSR_PublicMultYear.aspx?ClinicPKID=1947
good luck..

I'd go with Cornell too. They are #2 in the country (with the one in Denver being #1). Though I will say that most people who go to Cornell usually have 2-3 failed IVF's under their belt and have done most of the testing at another facility so they don't have to pay out of pocket. Though I believe Chung takes insurance. I cannot remember if you have any insurance coverage or if you've done some of the testing and can use that. Good luck.

Re: Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope
A couple people on here went with New Hope and had no success at all. I don't think that IVF is something you want to do on the cheap. The more eggs/embryos you can get out of a cycle the better your chances. Since you are only getting 1 or 2 eggs during a New Hope cycle your chances are so minimal for success that, to me, it wouldn't be worth it.
Cornell has so much experience and are so up to date on the latest developments that I wouldn't hesitate to go there. BTW, my SIL got PG on her second IVF cycle @ Cornell.

Cornell. Don't mess around. They do the most cycles and have seen it been there done that.
It's hard to compare facilities. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The ratios mean something.

I am a Cornell graduate and I highly recommend them
If you are dealing with MF or other issues I would only go to Cornell...their lab is outstanding so in my opinion your chances are much higher then New Hope!

Re: Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope
Thanks for all the replies...I know that Cornell is the best place to go..but after a small breakdown and long talk with DH last night we feel like we are going to give New Hope a chance. Everything we've done so far has been paid out of pocket and we are seriously limited in $. Also, a friend of ours went to New Hope and got pg on their 1st "mini" IVF (after 4 miscarriages). So I'm going to give it a shot. I also like the idea of less medication. I'm still going to keep our appts. with Cornell. DH isn't scheduled for Cornell until the end of August...so by then my cycle with New Hope will be over anyway.

Re: Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope
Have you looked into the NYS grant that Cornell offers?? it would save you some money....
we were approved (very simple process) and didn't end up using it, maybe you can get it in my place?? just a thought!

We used the grant at Columbia for our 1st IVF and they've since told us there are no more funds available. If we do eventually end up at Cornell I will definitely look into whether we can use the grant again...I know there is a limit of 2 times.

Re: Need opinions- Cornell vs New Hope
I did a mini cycle at New Hope and while it wasn't successful for me I can understand trying it. But I would also keep the appt with Cornell if you're not successful at New Hope
Good luck!

Thanks. My gut feeling was telling me we should be at Cornell but it is so hard to wait. DH doesn't have his appt there until the end of August, so I'm not sure if we will jump into IVF #2 after my appt. or wait until he meets with them. The waiting is killing me.
