Need opinions on the date for DS's 1st birthday party
Gavin's 1st birthday is November 8th, which falls on a Saturday.
I hadn't really thought about having it any other time except now that I am looking for a costume for work, I wonder if we should have it on the day after Halloween and make it a Halloween party.
There will be a lot of kids invited so do you think it's selfish to have his birthday on Halloween? (ETA the day after Halloween)
Opinions?
Trick or treating wouldn't really be a problem then, but is it lame to have a Halloween party the day after?

1st b-days are for you. If you want to have it on Halloween, go ahead. When he is 3 or 4, he may have an opinion, but for the 1st, do what you want...

I think a halloween party is a cute idea. And since it's a sat and if you do the party during the day then the kids will still have time to go trick or treating around their houses in the late afternoon/evening.

Honestly I don't think I would. I think kids are going to want to be out and about on Halloween.
I would do the Halloween theme party the following day.

I would rather nothave it on a Sunday, it's always nice to have the next day to relax after a party.
I figure if the party ends at 4, the kids can still go trick or treating right after the party while they are still in their costumes....
Just an idea, I can always keep it as planned and have it on the 8th, which is his actual birthday......
I DEFINItELY want opinions though because I have a tendency to get annoyed about someone's party ideas that maybe weren't thought out too well, so I would want someone to tell me if I did it.....

The trend over the last decade, though, is to go to an organized Halloween party, and not do as much trick-or-treating. Older kids like going door-to-door, but I've definitely seen the trend slant heavily towards parties and events.

Honestly, I get a little annoyed when people hold their parties on holidays.  My SIL christened 2 of her children on Mother's Day and while I went to both, I thought she could have chosen a better day. I would have the party on his birthday.

Oh you're right Jen! Halloween is on a FRIDAY......so do you think I should do the 1st or the 8th?
If I did the 8th it wouldn't be a Halloween party, but is it lame to have a Halloween party the day AFTER Halloween?

It really depends on the age of the kids going.
If they are younger, like my ds, I would want to be taking my DC out during the day NOT after 4.
If the kids are older then maybe but I still think most kids really ar looking forward to trick or treating and to avoid the headache or no shows I would pick another day OR maybe have the party later in the day to give the kids some time out

I am on the fence about the day after Halloween being lame or not. Part of me thinks it would extend the festivities and the kids would love it. Part of me is like maybe not

I agree and along these lines if you can turn the party into a real birthday/halloween bash (aka lots of candy treats) they will have a ball - this party will be well received.
Maybe do lots of things where the kids get candy & wear their costumes. If you end the party at a decent time that allows them to still go out and trick-or-treat...it might be even better.
