Need paint color help for kitchen!

We want to totally redo our kitchen in maybe 5 years - but for now we just want to remove the HORRIBLE wallpaper and paint the walls. We are not fans of the cabinets, floor or countertops - but we'll live with them.

floor - ugly black, white and gray peel and stick vinyl.

countertops and backsplash - black laminate.

cabinets - wood - a little darker than honey colored, but not very dark. We wanted to paint them - but now we're just going to live with them as is.

The ugly black stuff over the cabinets is black wallpaper - will be removed.

We are getting a new stove - stainless.

What do you paint the walls?

Try not to look at the photo for too long - I'm convinced the wallpaper will give you a migraine!!!!!!

I'm thinking a yellow or gold color, I could totally see that room taking on sort of a French country feel with the black counters.
here are a couple of links for inspiration
french country more

southern living at home

find a platter or decorative item that you like that plays off the black & pull a color out of it for the walls.

A nice Green, like a celedon or celery or a Blue, like a slate blue. Either color would brighten up the kitchen. Celery green is a very popular color right now, so you would find decorating stuff for the kitchen as well. I used BM-Nantucket Breeze (green) in one of my bedrooms and I love the color. I believe I have a pic in one of my albums. I really think just taking that wall paper down and painting will really change your kitchen a lot. GL! Chat Icon

ETA: an you can put down new stick tile on the floor. at least that isn't too expensive and it will really give the kitchen a new look.

I think we might do that - that's a good idea - the kitchen has become a punch line with our friends - the rest of the house really is lovely - and then you enter the kitchen and you practically get vertigo!

My first thought was a dark golden yellow.

I think burgundy would be nice too.
