Need quick help! (Problem after surgery)

DS had surgery on Tuesday. It was near his genitals and he can't bathe for a week. We were told to start giving him a sponge bath today, but were going to do that after his nap.

His penis and part of his testicles are BRIGHT RED! We've been cleaning him like normal when we change his diaper. Is this normal after surgery?

I called the surgeon's office, but nobody has called back yet.

Should I call his regular pediatrician?

Im trying to remember if it happened to my DS when he had his surgery...
Maybe its more sensitive b/c of the ansesthesia and stuff... instead of using wipes why dont you wet a washcloth instead and wipe him with that when you have to change him.. and definately call your pediatrician it cant hurt and they might be able to give you a remidy
