DH and I are going to be in the city on Saturday. Does anyone know of a place to get a casual dinner- we dont want super fancy- we were thinking of maybe going down to the village or little italy.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

la mela in little italy is yummy if you aren't picky, they just bring you food, they have menus, but from what i have heard, they don't like giving them to you

I've been to La Mela- I wasnt too impressed- but maybe thats because I was there with a whole groups of girls for a bachelorette party. The food was just so-so.
But thats so true about La Mela- we didnt get to pick our food! They just brought it to us!

DH and I discovered this little place in Soho when we first started dating 7 years ago. We still go there on special occassions and when his family is in town, because it is special to us. Its small and very casual- but very yummy.
La Dolce Vita on 195 Spring Street (East of 6th Ave).

Becco is a treat; it's always super crowded, though.....
That's Lidia, the chef's place.
Also, Home is on Cornelia Street. The people who I wrote about for the Long Island Wine Gazette (Shinn) own it! I think the Website is www.recipesfromhome.com
Amazing menu and Long Island wines...brunch and lunch is good, too!

Try Positano in Little Italy. I love it there! I, too, wasn't impressed with la mela or becco.
