Need some advice
We have a black lab who is 4 years old. Today we were sitting in the living room and the dog snapped at DD and bit her lip. She has a tiny cut on the outside and was bleeding in her mouth.
Of course DH and I are angry, upset, and confused.
Our dogs have never ever show a side of nastiness. They are usually very playful even with the babies.
Now what are we suppose to do?
DH wants to obviously get rid of her, but what about our other dog? Do we get rid of both?
I obviously don't want her to be put to sleep but what do you do in this situation?

Re: Need some advice
I am so sorry that happened to you guys! I would not necessarily get rid of both dogs. Maybe you could bring in a trainer to work with the other one. It will be hard to find someone to adopt a dog who bit a baby but you could try before putting it down. I am so sorry.

Re: Need some advice
Something similar happened to me recently...except the dog bit DH not DD. I posted on here and got lots of wonderful advice.
Here is the thread
When good dogs go bad
We have decided to take him to the vet get him evaluated and then start some steps from there. Good Luck...I know how hard it is

Re: Need some advice
Well, before I did anything, I'd look at the situation. What was going on?
I think you should take her to the vet and try training before you get rid of the dog, maybe something else is going on with her to make her act out like that

Re: Need some advice
It so hard with animals- because they are just that ANIMALS...
They are unpredictable and even the most lovable trustworthy dog can turn at the blink of an eye...
I would love to have a dog to add to our family, but I get scared of falling in love and getting attached and ending up in your situation...

Re: Need some advice
Was she being playful and accidentally nipped her or was the dog being aggressive? I think you should hire a trainer.

neither of the above.
DH and I were sitting in the chair playing wii. And my DD was standing there next to my husband waiting to be picked up. She didn't touch the dog or go near the dog. Which is why we are really confused.

Re: Need some advice
holy cow! glad she's ok! i also have a dog and honestly i don't know what i'd do. is there any way you can seperate them? have the dog gated off or in the basement? my dog and cat have their own studio apartment in my basement until ds will stop trying to bite them.

Re: Need some advice
The dog may have thought it was protecting your husband in some way. I think a trainer would help. If you decide to get rid of the dogs there may be some a lab rescue organization. They could rehome the dogs in a house w/o children.

Re: Need some advice
I would find a new home for biting dog ASAP.
(this is coming from someone with no interest in owning a dog)
