Need some advice about my cat
we adpoted a 7 year old male cat
he loves me- follows me around, lays next to me, wont leave me alone- so cute!
but- he HATES my DH- he will hiss and swat at him, last night he bite him
I feel like the cat thinks that he is my husband and the Jake is trying to take attention away from him
of course Jake fines this all very funny
but I never had a pet before and I just wanted to know if anyone else every experinced something like this?

Re: Need some advice about my cat
I would start to take in turns feeding him - if he sees Jake giving him food he might let his guard down a bit - it's worth a try - good luck!

Re: Need some advice about my cat
That is sort of funny considering Jake wanted the cat in the first place. I'm no expert, but how about Jake offers him some treats and toys?

Get some treats called "Temptations" we call them "kitty crack" in our house! The cats go nuts for them, they come in loads of flavors try those first, also whiskas make some cat milk that my girls love, so try that too. It's worth a shot. maybe if he trys playing with him too. It can't get any worse!!!

Re: Need some advice about my cat
I can't offer any advice b/c both our cats are complete mushes with me and my husband. But we both feed them, DH more frequently than me. Maybe that will help.
(I type this as I sit in the recliner with my laptop on my lap and my one cat on my lap between my stomach and the laptop. He always needs to be the center of attention!)

That is so cute that he adores you so much. I agree with what others have said - have your husband feed him so he can bond with him. I am sure he will come around.

Re: Need some advice about my cat
One of my cats will NOT come near my dh. It's pretty funny because dh really tries to get this cat to warm up to him but he just won't. Not only will the cat not come near him but if I'm holding him and dh comes close, the cat is absolutely petrified! He will lay in dh's spot on the couch after he gets up though. wierd

Re: Need some advice about my cat
Beth, I would definately try letting Jake feed the kittie & making sure the kitty sees him doing it!!
My cat was aggressive toward my DH at first too...........now he is fine with him!! He is still only mushy with me and more aloof with DH...........BUT at least no more attacks!!

Re: Need some advice about my cat
the werid thing is he acts like Jake's BFF- just to get close- then Jake gets all happy and then bam- hiss, smack, bite!
Jake is going to feed him from now on and we'll see if that helps

Re: Need some advice about my cat
Our cat was our DH's childhood cat and at first she didn't like me either. She's too sweet to hiss or anything but she kept her distance. After a while (and many feedings) she decided she loves me too. Never underestimate the power of food!
