Need some advice from pet lovers/owners.
Dh grew up with Yorkies his entire life (one male and female). He misses them dearly and goes over to his parents place whenever he has a chance to play with their new yorkie puppies (DH's childhood male pup had to be put to sleep 3 years ago and they recently purchased a new one to keep the other yorkie company).
So, I've been scanning North Shore Animal League, adoption ads, etc looking for a yorkie or a westie.
I found a perfect one today (Westie), contacted the owner and she decided not to give the dog up for adoption, but to a shelter (have no idea which one - they didn't share).
So, I am disappointed, and yorkies are so expensive and rare to find around these areas and I've seen so many of you looking at a pet web site, but I have no knowledge of it and whether they are safe/reliable.
DH and I would love a small dog for our new home, but I just feel heart broken.
Sorry for the length of this, but any helpful advice would be appreciated.

If you want to buy from a breeder, I would check with AKC and find out which breeders they recommend.

Definitely check Petfinder.com and also call Bide-a-wee & the local area shelters. They do not always put popular dogs on their websites b/c they know they will go quickly. When my MIL went to go get Foxy there were 2 Maltese puppies there & 3 chihuauas not on their site.

Remember, their are plenty of mixed lap dogs looking for a good home too.
Please don't buy while others die, adopt a shelter dog today.
