Need some advice--Updated--called realtor

So DH consulted a friend of his who is a Real Estate broker, and he ran our info to see what we could afford motgage wise. We got the word and started searching online for houses, just to see what was out there. We were not planning to buy for 6-12 months, but wanted to see what was in our range. Another friend recommends a house he saw online that so fit our price range, and though it's a cape, adn DH doesn't like capes, it has a lot of new stuff, and other extras that he'd forego it being a cape. So we did nothing and finally a couple days later calls his real estate friend, then calls me to get the listing #, I go back to the website...it's gone!

That was 5 weeks ago.

Tonight, being bored, I am searching online again and come across the house!!! I was so excited!!! What should we do?!?!

Is it worth just going to see the house? I mean if we wanted to we could buy now, but there has been SO much going on we'd prefer to wait.

Thoughts??? We're both first time home buyers and CLUELESS!

TIA!!

UPDATE:
I called the agency today to see if it was still available...it's not. They are in contract since Dec and closing on Feb 18 Chat Icon Oh well. Should have made this call back when we first saw it.

Thanks for all your advice, next time (I am sure there will be) we'll go see. I told DH it doesn't cost us anythign to look!

Re: Need some advice

I would look! There is a lot going on for you guys but you may fall in love with this house and it could be "the one".
Also, you could get a feel for the market. Also, I know the market is going back up so you may want to buy now. You will also compete with more people and could go into bidding war in the spring or summer. JMHO

I agree. It doesn't hurt to look and ask questions about the house.

Definitely take a look at it again. You may find that you don't like it as much the second time around. We experienced this with many homes. Some we loved initially, but on a second look, we saw the problems with the house. If you still love it after looking carefully a second time, it may be for you.

How is the area it is in? If it's also in a good location, that's another big plus.

I agree that it looks as if there is more activity lately. We finally got an offer on our co-op, and it seems as if more people are looking at houses and making offers. This board has been very busy lately.

Good luck!

i would take a look. It can't hurt and with real estate, if you hesitate... next thing you know, it's gone.

It can't hurt. Sometimes good things come when you aren't even looking for it! Chat Icon

Well, first call your RE agent and make sure the house really still is available, so you don't get your hopes up for nothing!

If the house is still on the market, I agree with the others, it can't hurt to look!

Chat Icon so not true at all- unless you have a crystal ball there is no way you could know this

historicly prices go up in the spring- but so do the amount of available houses

not even the experts are predicting this thru 2008

we haven't even begun to see the effects of people with 5 year i/o- that bought houses they couldn't afford- going into forclosure yet- that will begin to happen in late 2007 into 2008- leaving experts to already call 2008 the year of the foreclosure

personally- if the house doesn't need work- and is in your price range- I would look at it- but if you don't think the timing is right- wait- there will be other houses-

Re: Need some advice

I have to agree with Beth. There is no way you can say the market is starting to go back up. So far I have not seen anything in the market to prove that the houses are starting to go back up.

About the Cape, I would take a look at it. What do you have to lose.

Yes its a cape, and your husband doesnt like capes.....but maybe this house has a strong foundation, and in the future you can blow it up to make it what you would want it to be.

We live in a cape, a Levitt cape. We love our house.

Sorry! That has happened to us so many times!

You should definitely go look next time you see someting that has potential - its always good to see whats out there - it will give you an idea of what you like/don't like.

So sorry this house didn't work out, but as the saying goes on this board. "What's meant to be, will be meant to be" Another house is out there waiting for you to come along and buy it!

My DH is a VP at a mortgage bank and my Dad owned a real estate company and they would both strongly disagree with the market going up in the next 6 months to a year
