Need some assistance - maybe from a hospital social worker or anyone who has dealt with a diabetic family member that has had surgery
Can anyone tell me if there is a service that can provide transportation from your home to a Dr appointments? She told us she called the Dr's office and they told her no, they dont offer anything like that and really couldn't help her. She does not receive medicaid.
She is in a wheelchair and even though I am the only relative home during the day, I can't lift her wheelchair into my car over and over. I am dealing with a high risk pregnancy.
Any advice you can give would be great. thanks!!

Have you considered able ride or scat (Suffolk county)?

I've only ever dealt with Medicaid transportation, and some of my clients also use Able Ride/Access a Ride.
You can also go to Hitesite.org and click on Transportation and some resources come up.
I also have always been told when in need of an out of the box resource, to try the churches and local communities of faith. Often they have resources and volunteers.
ETA: I believe a lot of the ambulette companies will also do private pay.

You would probably need to hire an ambulette.

I just called Lifestar and they charge $165! She isn't even going 10 miles

Where does she live?
I have a good relationship with Empire Medicab which is based in Farmingdale.
I also have worked with Choice a lot and they tend to be pretty decent. They go all over the island.
I am not sure of what the prices are going to be though for private pay.
