Need some help with appliances...
Hi...we're going to start very soon on remodeling our kitchen...basically the whole thing is being gutted out.
All I have picked out are my cabinets...I have no ideas yet on anything else .
I was wondering if you can give me any ideas on which appliances to choose...anyone know which are good for a decent price? We're getting everything new...refrig, stove, microwave and dishwasher.
I'm also considering stainless...is it really that hard to keep them clean? Anyone regret getting stainless?
TIA!!!

Re: Need some help with appliances...
We got all new appliances about a year ago. Stove, Fridge, Dish washer & microwave. We bought all of them at PC Richards. We shopped around they had the best price. All of ours are GE. The stove is GE profile. I really like it. I can try to get you the model #'s if you like just let me know. We went with all black. We noticed as we where looking around that the stainless steel had finger marks all over them and I didn't want to spend my time cleaning the appliances each time we opened a door. Plus they where a little cheaper. We where on tight budget.

We gutted our kitchen when we bought our new house and I LOVE how it turned out - it's hard work, but so worth it! Just a tip for appliances - we bought one of our appliances at, I think, best buy as a floor model. It's a convection oven that usually sells for about $2000 and we got it for $500 because a little strip of plastic was missing at the bottom. We ordered it from the manufacturer for about $5 and now we have a perfect oven for 1/3 the price!

Re: Need some help with appliances...
Well, we have the new appliances, but no cabinets yet
We bought stainless and I love them. Just wipe them down with stainless wipes every so often and they are fine.
We also got the GE profile oven and are very happy with it. Dishwasher is Maytag, so far so good.
Fridge is LG french door, which is really nice looking, but truthfully can be a pain in the azz. The freezer part seems pretty small, and I've gotten it stuck a few times cramming stuff in there...but I love the fridge part. Oh well, we are getting a freezer for the basement soon anyway!

I like PC Richard as a vendor, and yes stainless finishes - but careful with the fridge! Some of them show every fingerprint.
If you are buying ALL new appliances, I would suggest subscribing to Consumer Reports online. That way you can look up their report on each item. I use it a lot...

Re: Need some help with appliances...
I second Consumer Reports.... a lot of their top ranked appliances are Kenmore. Make sure you really shop around. If you are buying ALL new appliances you should be able to get a package deal. also keep in mind that many places will price match.
DH and I bought all of our appliances right after the holidays and Sears had a "buy 3 appliances get 20% off" sale. We had to open two Sears cards and charge three appliances to each card (appliances had to be over $300 each). I also printed out ads from competitors so not only did I save about 15% off the price but an additional 20%. Total savings was over $2500!

Re: Need some help with appliances...
Be careful of PC Richards if you buy high end - my cousine bought a bosch dishwasher and they would not take it back when it was a problem because it was a high end product bosch fixed ti but was a much bigger hassle- usually the store is much better
as for appliances dishwasher - bosch or fisher and playkill drawers
stove - thermadore or jenair
micrwave - Ge profile
oven - bosch convection or thermadore - make sure htis is electric even if you have gas for the stove
fridge - subzero is the best - but fisch and playkill makes a really good one for less
think about what you like but also resale value it will add - certain brands are advertised when they talk about a kitchen - thermador, bosch, subzero
stainless steel is what is in right now and if you plan to sell within a few years go that route because it is advertised - but if you plan on staying longer it is more of a personal choice because trends change- choose what you like the look of
i personally love the look of stainless - but i have seen a black fridge with stainless appliances looks nice - that is what is touched most

Re: Need some help with appliances...
Something also to keep in mind - do you have a home warranty? It's worth the investment if you buy new appliances. Our brand new microwave and stovetop broke down within the first year (they just don't make appliances like they used to!). The home warranty covered it and we didn't have to spend a dime to fix them (actually, we had the microwave replaced, free of charge!). The warranty costs $500 per year, and we've gotten well more than that in repairs/replacements...

Re: Need some help with appliances...
We just purchased a house and got all new appliances. We will gut the kitchen after we are married, but we found such a good sale we could not walk away!
We just bought stainless steel Kenmore appliances from Sears. There was a great deal
$1700 - for fridge, micro, oven & dishwasher. Rebate on the delivery and no interest until Jan 2007. We had the money, but now decided to pay it off in Oct after we are married!
Microwave had not been installed yet!

Re: Need some help with appliances...
We got all new appliances last January. They are great so far!
Stove/oven - a GE Profile convection oven, with countertop level smooth top cook surface (its flush with the countertop). By far my favorite, but the most expensive (about $2000).
Dishwasher - a Kenmore Elite. Good enough for us, it also has a china cycle and a sani-rinse cycle.
Fridge - another GE Profile, with freezer on bottom. No problems.
They are all in black and we got them at Sears, who were having a sale at the time, plus gave us an additional 10% because we bought 3 at the same time.
