Need some help with my cat!!!

Ok, DH and I have been married 3 months and we share an apt with my brother, who will be moving out w/i the next 6-8 months. When he moves out he is taking the leather 3-pc sectional couch that my lovely and adorable Pedro (my cat) has left some not so nice claw marks on.

I was talking to DH and said we'd bring his furniture from his mom's house (that is in his old room) to our place. It's a leather love seat and chair. But DH is very stern on not doing that b.c he doesn't want Pedro messin up that furniture too.

See, it's not that Pedro scrathes on them, he's very good at using his scratching post and the berber carpet in the computer room. But what happens is when he sits on the couch and then charges at something or goe to run off the couch, his nails, mostly the back ones, tear up and leave "skid" marks.

I am SO against declawing and the like. Is there ANY way to get him to stop charging of the couch and leaving those marks?

I think if you keep his nails trimmed, you shouldn't have a problem. Also There are these things called SoftPaws that might help.
