Need some ideas for Christmas Eve...

We are having everyone over by us (a tradition it looks like we started last year Chat Icon ) and I need some help with things to do with/for my neices and nephew.

Ages range from 5 - 10 and I'd like some things to keep them busy but also things that they will enjoy...and I'd love suggestions for things that we can all do together.

Thanks!

You can make ornaments for the tree - or have everyone make their own felt placemat.

Have you looked on Oriental Trading? They usually have some cute cheap crafts.

I don't think you want to get that messy...but you could probably make your own ornaments. Look in AC Moore or Michaels for some ideas...

Pipe cleaners with beads make great candy canes or wreaths...Chat Icon

Re: Need some ideas for Christmas Eve...

Do they like coloring?
I once got one of those pictures they have in Michaels that have the black felt around the outline of the drawing and you color in between. I once gave this to my cousin on Christmas Eve to keep him busy at about 10 and he colored all night and then hung it up in his room. They're relatively inexpensive.

ETA they come in different sizes and difficulty for different ages.

Let them do what me and my cousins always did: Run around the house like lunatics nagging everyone to let us open our presents. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Need some ideas for Christmas Eve...

This idea isn't crafty or especially creative by any means, but we've done this with kids in the same age range, and it was fun!

The Present Train

They ride the present train before getting handed their first gift to open.

Line them all up, kind of like a conga line, and you or DH can lead the train. Choo-choo around the house a couple of times dancing and singing in the train (or conga line!) and then, when the train ride is over, have someone, whether it be Santa or a relative, hand each kid a present. Or, maybe you can had each kid a craft or something to do instead of present... This doesn't really keep them busy, it's just something cute and it's a great opportunity to get some cute pics!

Good luck!

Re: Need some ideas for Christmas Eve...

Thanks again everyone.

I agree...we were never entertained at parties but I think this was "recommended" to us because last year they were bored and everyone wants this gtg to become a tradition. At first I was like Chat Icon - we got yelled at for making too much food last year and now this - although stepping back I do think this suggestion was made with good intentions. So I want to try to make the best of it.

DH thinks we should do a treasure hunt throughout the house...I am not sure sure because that means 6 little feet trampling about all over. Chat Icon

Re: Need some ideas for Christmas Eve...

What about making big cookies using cookie cutters and then giving the kids icing and candies to decorate the cookies.
