Re: need some serious weight loss help .
For me, It helps to break it into a smaller goal. So for the first week of January, I committed to being really healthy and working out - I lost 3 pounds. This was more doable than just "I want to lose 20 pounds".
The first week I went to the gym 5 times that week and did 45 mins or 60 mins of cardio (Running/Bike/Elliptical). I do no more than 30 mins of one exercise because I get bored. I also did one night of weights. This week, I wasn't so good and worked out 2 hours but plan to do another hour today, no weights (stressful work week )
For eating, I have really been focusing on calories. For breakfast, I have one egg on a slice of lowfat bread, a yogurt with a serving of cereal, or one packet of oatmeal. Lunches I have been having a big salad with fat free dressing and a little lunchmeat or white meat chicken. I had a sandwhich on low cal bread a few days. Snacks have been veggies and lowfat dip or fresh fruit.
Dinners I have been trying to cut out the carbs and have been having lean protein and a lot of veggies.
No alcohol or desserts - this is the hardest part!!
For me, the only thing that helps is exercise. I can't loose weight unless I hit the gym and sweat it out.
Good Luck!!!
Edited to add: To help not gaining it back, don't do anything too extreme. I was only trying to be very strict for a few weeks in January, then scale back a little to a more realistic lifestyle. You have to find what works for you. The only way I don't gain weight back is to stick to my workout routine (which I lapsed on the past 2 years, hence the problem I'm in now!!!).

I agree.
Instead of saying "I need to lose 40 pounds", make mini-goals. It's less overwhelming to say that you're goal is to lose 10 pounds in two months and then you can continue on from there.
I'm not sure what your diet is like but making small changes over time can help so much rather than making a ton of changes all at once. If you're drinking regular soda/iced tea or juice, switching to water will make a huge, huge difference.
To start, maybe you could try to take one week and write down everything that you eat - when, where, what - and see what changes you need to make. I know that I tend to underestimate my calorie consumption, especially when I go out to eat.

First, sorry that I read your post wrong - you've already lost a ton of weight, so congratulations on that!
Have you tried WW? So many girls on here do so well with it and they follow the program online, no meetings.

Nic....hang in there...it does come off and you lost a lot to begin with.
For me, it was WW. i will be going back after these babies are born.
It helped me adjust to a different and better way of eating, without heavy restrictions...and I lost 10pds.

Re: need some serious weight loss help .
Wow great job on your weight loss. I dont know if this is an option but Jillian Michaels has a book that helps to lose the last bit of your weight. I dont know what she means by last bit, but its for people who worked hard and cannot seem to lose anymore. I havent tried it myself but picked it up once and looked it over, sounds like a good plan if you ask me!

Good for you! That's a lot of weight to lose! Have you tried sprints? Incorporating bursts of intense/fast periods of working out, regardless of what you're doing (running, walking, elliptical, etc.) burns more calories even after you're done with your workout. You could also try smaller more frequent meals. Keep up the good work!
