Need things to do for family member that is visiting FOR A MONTH from Europe
Hi, my cousin is here for about a month, he's 19 years old and I need things to do with him. So far i've got down the planetarium laser show in centerport ny, the haunted house in wading river (pretty cool there) and honestly that's about it. I'm from the north shore are but will travel to festivals around the island.
Just a little about him he's 19 kind of punky, likes rock and roll and other types, loves clothes is very into the styles like dolce and gabbana (sp?) Actually at this moment my husband took him to the tanger outlets in deer park.
Can you recommend any places to go to or do on the island, I would really appreciate it.

I was going to say the wineries, but he's only 19. LOL!

Museum of Natural History
there is a Titanic exhibit in NYC on the old NY times building
Fishing out Of Captree or Freeport

I like the Great Adventure idea too. I'm going to ask him about sports too I'm not sure if he's into it. Dave and Busters just popped into my head as well I think that would be a good place to shoot pool or bowl and eat some burgers or something.

We had European visitors with us for over 3 months, March-June, so I know what it's like to try to think of things to do.
TheFire Island Lighthouse is opened for tours year round. You can climb to the top of it. We spent a day doing that then had a picnic on the beach in March. Our guests were used to rocky beaches they loved seeing the sand.
If he likes concerts The Bowery Presents is a good site to check out for shows in NYC.
Besides that we did a lot of shopping, well they shopped I drove, going out to dinner and touring NYC.

We're do the circle line too thanks. Roosevelt Field Mall is a good day visit too :) thanks I have to see if he's into the museum stuff maybe that maddam touseon wax thing (excuse the spelling, typing fast) I heard there is one in the city.

The Bodies exhibit might be cool too. The city could keep him interested for weeks, there's so much to see. Grand Central, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, any of the museums, a Broadway or off-Broadway show, plus finding little places to eat here and there.
But it gets pricey, I know!

Maybe the Bronx Zoo also. It's huge in there and so much to see.

check out the crazy donkey for shows during the week he can go to. I see all younger teeny rock people hanging out during the week there. I only go to metal shows when they do have them and there are a few going to come up there.
Bodies exhibit as mentioned, there is a bus tour of NYC my mother just did and she loved it and I wnat to do it with DH and some buddies so he might be into that to see all NYC.

he may be young, but he is still a tourist! i would do all the typical:
empire state building
top of the rock
bronx zoo
aquarium
sushi/hibachi restaurant
typical american breakfast at a diner
museum of natural history
MOMA
this is all stuff my family loves when they come!
ETA: im sorry i dont know how to read, LOL - you wanted stuff on the island. we only take my cousins to the mall on LI when they come.

if he's into punk/music etc definitely bring him into the city
if i were him, thats where i'd want to be anyway 
try the rock n roll hall of fame annex downtown
museum of sex
St. Marks
Check out Village Voice for shows that are playing while he's here - there are tons of venues with under 21 shows.
On the island.. you could bring him to Utopia in Hicksville, he might find some cool stuff there.
I agree with another poster about checking out shows at Crazy Donkey too - they seem to have more shows there now.

Definitely a trip into Manhattan. When we have family from Italy come in all they want to do is see NYC and shop!
