need to give away my cat

I'm really sad, but I need to give away my 7 year old female. Does anyone know of any place that I can bring her? I want to make sure it's a no-kill shelter...

any suggestions would be most appreciated!!!!

Right from the get- go in a shelter? Shes 7!!! Her chances of being adopted are so slim.. she is going to spend the rest of her life in there Chat Icon Can you or did you try to re home her? Maybe someone on here can help.. If my husband wasnt deathly allergic I would foster her till you found a home. Is she friendly ? does she have issues?

Re: need to give away my cat

She is your pet. Can you please try to find a GOOD forever home for her, vs automatically ask for a shelter? You do realize that her chances of a good life are SLIM to none if you just dump her in a shelter.

Re: need to give away my cat

I recommend you dont bring her to a shelter and do whatever is in your power to find her the good, loving and loyal home she deserves. I am sorry to come off nasty and I am sure you have your reasons but I will NEVER understand how anyone can ever consider dumping their pet in a shelter after a day, let alone 7 years.

I was thinking the same thing!!!My dog will be 7 in september.. The thought of being away from her for more than 5 hours makes me sick to my stomach.. I dont know your situation but if you think YOUR sad , try to imagine what your cat feels like after you dump him off in a cold cage for possibly the rest of her life..
ETA: I know I am being harsh here but If i can help you realize what your doing before possibly finding a forever home than I will take the back lash for being harsh.. She deserves at least for you to do that .. Ask all your friends and family , co workers , they may know someone who knows some one..

Re: need to give away my cat

The harsh reality is that kill shelter or not, your 7 year old cat is going to live their final years (could be 10-15 years) in a cage. (unless it get sick first and then has to be "humanely euthanized." Unless your cat has some magic mojo no one is going to the shelter to adopt a 7 year old cat. This is no life for your beloved pet

I don't know what your individual circumstance is but I urge you to try and find your cat a new home. I have seen Facebook be very successful. Ask your vet. Ask friends. Ask family. You never know who heartstrings will be pulled. Make sure to post a picture. It is harder to say no when there are two beautiful eyes and a fuzzy face staring back.

If you post the picture, I certainly can share on my Facebook as well. I deal with a lot of rescue organizations and can reach a lot of cat lovers who in turn know more cat lovers.

Most no kill shelters will just send your cat off to a kill shelter if they run out of room. I'm not making that up; I know that from people who have volunteered at shelters.

Can't you try to find her a home or at least a foster home? A shelter is going to be an awful place for a seven year old cat....she is going to spend the rest of her life in a cage, as another poster said.

If you can't, maybe try contacting Bobbi and the Strays. I don't know this for sure, but I think they have a free roaming area for the rescues.

I agree. The thought of that makes me want to vomit.
I would go to the ends of the earth to keep my cats- I can't even imagine.

Re: need to give away my cat

For those that did - do not judge me. You do not know the circumstances. This is not an easy decision to make and i am by NO means taking it lightly.

I have been trying to find her a new home, through word of mouth and through several vets. Unfortunately, I have yet to get any leads.

I was unware that no-kill shelters send to other shelters that do put down animals, so i appreciate that information.

Re: need to give away my cat

keep posting here and expost to the family board. I adopted my cat from a fellow LIFer who posted on this board. I know they were so glad I found their post. My cat, Belle, rocks and I am so glad I adopted her!

Maybe make a new post and describe her so that people will know her age, health, any special needs (if any), personality, etc. Include a pic if you can.

Good luck!

ETA
Belle had a hard time in her previous home bc the male cat tortured her and she was nervous around the toddler. They toyed around with giving her meds for her anxiety but didn't really want to do that. Since the male cat was fine with the toddler, the owners decided to find a new home for Belle. I think they made a great decision since she is now the most relaxed kitty in town :)

Not to be 'debbie downer' but there is nothing I can do for a 7 year old cat Chat Icon Sadly, I get this email at least once a day either from here or my home email. There are literally THOUSANDS of cats in need of homes.

I don't know what your situation is and I'm trying really hard not to judge but please don't put her in a shelter that's just cruel. Shell either get put down or live life in a loveless cage wondering why her family abandoned her. Please send me a pic with info and I'll post on fb and ask around. Don't post on Craigslist either I've heard too many horror stories of animal abuse, torture or testing on there.
