Need to start swimming lessons for a 3 yr old. Saf-T-Swim or YMCA?

I would like one on one lessons. I'm not sure if the Y offers that so if you can please share your opinion of the two centers. I'm in the north shore area. TIA

i only have experience with safety swim with my dd and they have been great there..i do know friends who have do signed their kids up at the Y and have been happy there, so i would check out both places and compare what is offered and prices - from what i do know the Y is much cheaper

I too only have experience with Saf-t-Swim! DS is currently taking lessons and he loves it. I definitely plan on continuing once this session is over.

My son just started Saf T Swim two weeks ago. He is still in the crying process so I can't really tell you how it is otherwise. I would check out prices for both.

I know that the huntington Y offers private swim lessons

i am planning on signing up in the fall for private- we did the mommy and me this past spring

also mattering on the time you pick - you can also sign up for a family swim to get more time in the pool - my son only cries when i take him out a total water rat

the y was definetly cheaper than safety swim if you plan on doing more than one session

We don't have Saf-T near us, so I can only speak for the YMCA (in our area)and it's been GREAT. DD's been in lessons since 15 months and she just finished almost 5 months of private at the Y.

I ABSOLUTELY HATED SAF-T-SWIM... PULLED DD OUT RIGHT AWAY - WE ACTUALLY WENT TO NY SPORTS CLUB - IT WAS A LITTLE MORE $$ BUT THE INSTRUCTOR WAS AMAZING WITH DD AND I WOULD/WILL GO BACK AFTER THE SUMMER....

My son learned to swim at 3 yrs old within 10 group lessons so I do not believe you need any private lessons. My son finally took private lessons this year at safety swim and they were amazed at what a great swimmer he is. I noticed that they do not always teach the proper technique as most red cross lessons do. My nephews took safety swim lessons and took longer to learn than my son. My dd will be joining the cheaper redcross group lessons soon. I think you should do whatever works for you.

I did Saf-T-Swim and liked it a lot, but my friend who has done both STS & the Bay Shore Y prefers the Y so I think that I might try them in the fall...

My DD is in safety swim and we love t. I know the Y by us is a lot more affordable but I wanted my daughter to have individual lessons and not group lessons so she can learn at her own pace.
