Need to vent/what would u do ..work related

Sorry if this is sort of long but here goes:
I need to start this out by saying I had to fill some pretty big shoes at my job this year, I took over this whole new department for my friend who left to have a baby and wasn't coming back, then 2 months later they fired the girl who was working right under me and didn't hire a replacement plus I had no coverage up until recently (they fired the girl in July) so I basically have been bending over backwards, and busting my butt and have not been able to take a day off with out worrying what kind of a mess I was coming back into...All with out missing a beat.
So anways, My boss hands out our bonuses usually the day before/day of our christmas dinner so at the dinner everyone has gotten them. Well this year for some reason our dinner was Monday and its Thursday and not all bonuses have been handed out...that sort of bothered me b/c I just thought it was unfair..but whatever it is what it is. Anyway his usual practice is to bring you into his office sit you down..says a few nice things and hands you the check...well all of a sudden he comes looking for me and asks the girl I'm training for my vacation where I was (I was sitting 2 desks over at a co-workers desk who might I add I cover her desk also in the afternoons while she does sales for our company). So I look up and say i'm over here..he comes over and THROWS the check on the desk in front of me..says "Thank you for everything happy holidays" I think I was some what in shock b/c I jsut looked up and said Thanks..Then he says to me "are you going away this year for christmas " i said Yes So he asks when are you leaving I say not untl the 22nd ..he responds Oh good not for another week and walks away...So now I'm kinda just sitting there stunned but sort of thinking ok maybe he just wants to hand them out and get it over with. Well a half an hour later he calls in someone else INTO HIS OFFICE SHUTS THE DOOR AND I"M SURE DOES HIS LITTLE ROUTINE....So why did I have mine thrown at me in the middle of the office like I'm a worthless something or other??? I am so hurt and upset I started tearing at my desk...after all I've done this year (and the past 7 years I've been there) you can't even take me in there and say a few nice things to me...how do I deserve less respect then anyone else in that office..Not to mention at the dinner one of our sales man started singing my praise to him about how great I am in the department and in the 15 years he's been with the company he's never felt so confident in someone in my seat as he does with me, he hasn't had one complaint what so ever yadda yadda...how does my boss not realize that I need to hear that from him?? I don't even want to go to work tomorrow and it amazes me how little it takes to boost your employees moral and how little it takes to tear it right down!! One of the girls I work with said I should say something to him, but for what..whatever he says to me now is going to be meaningless

Ugh. I'm sorry about that. I would have been really hurt too.

Is it possible he just knows how busy you are and just wanted to get it done without all of the ado to save your time especially since you've been through the routine 7 times already?

Or maybe you've done so much he doesn't really know quite how to thank you so he is avoiding the situation?

Maybe he's intimidated by your abilities, especially considering you're a woman? And with others singing your praises, he figures you don't need to hear it again from him. I dunno, but that was sort of nasty. I would say something.

Did your bonus reflect all the hard work you put in this year? I might walk into HIS office and close the door and start off with something like, "did I do something to annoy you today?" Blah Blah...I wouldnt ignore his behavior.

I would ask to talk to him and tell him how you feel the way he handed you the bonus was unprofessional.

It happened to me once (a long time ago). I used to work very closely with the President of a company. So closely that sometimes he would forget his "manners". Like I did not need the respect other employees did. I realized he was treating me like a "buddy" or like the other "guys" of his closest group. He felt so at ease that he was no longer treating like an employee.

So it's either that or he is intimidated by you and does not know how to interact with you.
