Need yard advice...

DH and I spent yesterday and today raking and filling black bags with leaves and grabbing handful of twigs and branches from our backyard. We filled 20 bags and after looking at the backyard it didn't even look like we put a dent into it.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Plus, as we were cleaning up, we found about 10 tree stumps that need to be removed. The ground is not level at all, either with mounds and low areas.

So, we were thinking that we need a team/landscaper/tiller to come in and complete a full jobs, so we can have a level ground, healthy grass, and actual soil instead of rock soil.

So, I am in desperate need of recommendations and estimated costs. PLEASE!Chat Icon Chat Icon

PS: We should have stipulated in our contract that the owner take care of the brush and stumps, since it was his doing, but hind sight is 20/20 and who knows if he would have agreed.

Re: Need yard advice...

I posted it on the spring cleanup topic-

im paying $300 - but with the size of our yard (half acre) and NO LEAVES being picked up in the fall - we have a TON - it literally took me three full days to cleanup some in the front yard.

and that includes seeding where there is no grass (which is everywhere bc the leaves being left on the ground killed our lawn)

OMG - you just saved me, Meaghan!Chat Icon Chat Icon DH and I thought it would cost a couple thousand at least, and I remember what your yard was like when we looked. We have a 1/4 or a little over, so this keeps me hopeful.

Let me know how they do (When are they scheduled to come to your house?)!

THANK YOU!

Re: Need yard advice...

For leaves only we just paid a college student to do it.

We posted on Craigslit. A kid replied, he needed money and we had tons of leaves. Much cheaper than the landscaper. We have a 90x110 property (I think!).

a college student would run and hide if he saw my lawn. i think i have at least 100 bags of leaves back there.

FYI for all future homeowners - if you buy a house in the late fall - put it in your contract to have the leaves picked up!!Chat Icon

I completely agree, Meaghan! I'll add early winter too if no one lived in the house prior to you! I have a year worth of leaves, brush, etc to take care of.

Trust me.... they were at least 50 bags. No kidding! I was PG in the Fall so I did not do it. The kid did not come until early January. He was glad! That was a good job for him!
