Needs advice from those who have taken a vacation with an infant- 16 month old
My cousin (who was my MOH) is getting married in Mexico next May.
Im trying to wrap my head around the idea of going. Here are my questions/issues:
* would she need her own seat on the plane? what about when we got there-would she need a carseat on a shuttle etc?
* She'll be on table foods and milk at that point. Is milk in Mexico ok for her?
*what about the water issue?
*how in the world do you pack diapers and stuff?!?
ANY and all advice is VERY much appreciated. I would really like to try and go.
TIA

Re: Needs advice from those who have taken a vacation with an infant- 16 month old
I've traveled a lot with the kids - its totally doable, it just requires more planning and more stuff.
Depending on your destination, its often easier to buy stuff there (like diapers). I pack whatever I can fit in the suitcase and then buy more.
In Mexico, I would stick to bottled water to be safe. The milk should be fine. If you're worried about it you can pack boxes of the shelf stable milk (I always bring those for the plane anyway).
You're not required to buy her a seat, but its much safer and much more comfortable for everyone. If you don't buy her a seat, you may get lucky with an empty one, but its not a sure thing.
I've been on shuttles with and without car seats. If you're getting a seat for her, you can bring her car seat on board and use that in the shuttle as well.

Re: Needs advice from those who have taken a vacation with an infant- 16 month old
We've traveled w/ Brandon out of country since he was 9 months old...
Is she getting married in Cancun? When we took him to Cancun, there was a 7-11 in walking distance so we did that for milk..Make sure there is a mini fridge in your room..When we took him to the Domincan we brought Parmalat (they do not have regular milk there, but Cancun did)
Definately bottled water...
Diapers - pack more than what you need !!! I accidentally made the mistake of grabbing the wrong stack of diapers for our trip and finding size 4 diapers was next to impossible (don't ask why ) We had to pay one of the resort staff to get us a package from his home town !
As for the plane- they can lap sit until age 2 ..Evertime we have flown, we brought his car-seat on and got lucky that the flight wasnt full and were able to give him his own seat (god-send IMO) You will have to pay a small airport tax for her either way... No-one I saw used a car-seat on the shuttle (nor did we) Its very rush rush getting on those things, you almost dont have a chance to...
Also swim-diapers, bring those (again, hard to come by) and $$$$ !
Go for it, you'll have a ball

I'm sure its similar as far as the convenience store end of it....Give a quick post on Travel and see what the situation is as far as getting to town etc...
Either way, IMO, overpack on the essentials, and you'll have room for souveniers on the way home
