neighbor vent: UPDATE
OK so I live in a complex in Patchogue, and have these neighbors on each side of us. One couple has about 6 cats, the other ones scream, bang throw things just noisy all the time. The cat people have been leaving cat dishes out to feed the strays, ok Im not totally heartless but now the dishes are constanly infront of my door, now I have an "emergeny cat shelter" on the other side of my door. WHY I asked them to please put it on their side and they said "NO" Do I call the office and ask them to move it?? Im going to take a pic and post it. Im cant wait to move away from these people Image Attachment(s):

Re: neighbor vent
I wonder why they'd leave the dishes in front of your door instead of their own? Rude.

Re: neighbor vent
I am one of the biggest animal lovers & animal rights activists out there....but.......My neighbor has been doing the exact same thing. When DH approached them & asked them to move it b/c I am PG & he does not want to encourage the cats to come near our house, her response was "Lighten up, at least you have a house." It has gotten so bad (as it can with feral cats) that at one point we had 21 cats running through our yard & onto our deck. One of them even decided to make a bed out of my patio set & trashed 2 of my cushions.
Honestly she is not doing any real favours to the cats by only feeding them, and unless she plans to TNR, then it will only get worse.

Re: neighbor vent
Can you report them to the complex? I'd tell them if they dont remove it, you'll call animal control (which isn't such a bad idea to begin with if they go to no kill shelters)

I just got off the phone with them and they said they were going to talk to them this evening. I feel bad too about the cats but I dont want to smell urine, when I walk outside. We are up to 4 cats that drop by eat, poop and hang out.

Re: neighbor vent
You need to fm MsErod or lorich, they have lots of experience with crazy neighbors. I have no patience so I probably would have put on some surgical gloves and thrown it on their lawn.
My neighbor problem is the 80 year old accross the hall who is afreaid of Baby BK and yells at us in yiddish...so I yell back that I understand her.

Also pointing out that cats can't read & won't call their phone number. Why even put that on the box?? At least you can call them regularly when the cats are bothering you.

I would also just keep moving the bowls back in front of their door, everytime I find them in front of mine.

Re: neighbor vent: UPDATE
So the office people come and tell her she needs to REMOVE the cat shelter, and she does. Great. I go down stairs this morning after DH leaves and there is a note taped to my door.
Dear Neighbor, I hope you are happy, they made us move the cat shelter. I hope you can sleep tonight knowing a cat might freeze to death. -next door neighbor
Are you Fing kidding me. I just dont want to look at it and smell urine walking into my home, you crazy biotch. I will sleep fine tonight take them to a shelter if you are that concerned, crackhead. Im not happy.

Im not happy. Seriously if she is that concerned then she can so the right thing, trap the cats & bring them to a no kill shelter where they can be evaluated & possibly adopted into a FULL TIME HOME.
Your neighbor is an a$$.

Dear Neighbor:
Thank you for your concern. I can assure you that I will sleep just fine tonight, without the smell of cat urine wafting through my vents and into my home and without the fear of contracting disease from a feral animal.

Re: neighbor vent: UPDATE
She can't let them into her home - stray cats are that - stray. Most of the time they will not let anyone even near them. They will not freeze, they will climb under the hood of someone's car or otherwise find a way to survive. If they couldn't, there wouldn't be so many.
I have stray cats in my yard and although I am an animal lover, I hate it. I wanted to SNR but then they seemed to go away for a time- and now that I have a puppy, well they are back.
Your neighbor is an azz, don't let her get to you. You did the right thing.

I'm a huge animal advocate as well but she has NO RIGHT to infringe her ideals on your life and your home. What if you were highly allergic or pregnant? She has such high regard for the animals, let her keep that crap on HER side of the place! What an a$$. Like you need cat piss, poop and vomit all over the joint?

I told her I was PG & evidently in her world that is not HER problem.
(I am a huge animal activist too, so it is not like I am lacking in sympathy.)

Re: neighbor vent: UPDATE
Not for nothing- but my MIL contracted toxoplasmosis from a situation similar to this. She has other medical issues not related to this- but since her immune system is already comprimised, the toxoplasmosis is really doing a number on her system- and now her eyesight is really bad- she isnt supposed to drive- and will probably be legally blind within the next year. Any treatment that they try with her doesnt work.
I love animals too- and I do feel bad for strays- especially with this cold weather- but there is a real risk!

Yeah we have been having an ugly battle about it. I even offered to pay half of the TNR fee, she says its "cruel to the animals." Not only is it not cruel, but it actually helps them & protects them.
She did not give her cats away when she was PG, so she thinks I am overreacting. Considering I am not exposed to cats on a regular basis I think she needs to get her facts straight.
You are more than welcome to come over & give her a verbal beatdown!
