neighbors husband passed, what can i bring over?
We really only spoke to the wife once or twice but always talked to the husband. The wake is only tonight & we can not make it. I feel terrible & would like to bring something to the wife on Sunday so they don't think we blew them off.

I would do a gift certificate to a local place that has takeout. She isn't going to feel like eating - and when she does, she isn't going to feel like cooking.
When my dad passed, my mom appreciated the gift cards and anything that was cooked that could be frozen (sauce, lasagna etc.)

Also - as time goes on - if you can - just check in with her. Stop by for a quick "hi," etc. My mom once told me the "lonely time" really hits in later...

Re: neighbors husband passed, what can i bring over?
I remember someone bringing my family a few quarts of soup from a Chinese restaurant. It sticks out as something different that we actually found comforting and were able to stomach. We froze a tray of baked ziti someone brought and ate that later which was nice. The rest of the food that was brought mainly went to feed visitors since no one in my family was interested in eating much.

I agree. The best thing you could do is invite her by for coffee.

Re: neighbors husband passed, what can i bring over?
My dad just passed over the summer.
Food was good, but honestly I would wait a little longer before bringing it over. You get so much the first week and most of it goes to waste b/c you don't feel like eating.
Friends of ours bought us a bunch of pre-cooked meals from Lombardis market about a week after the funeral. It was great, b/c we still didn't feel like cooking and it lasted us for two meals. Just had to be heated up.
If you want to send a card now, so they don't think you forgot about them and then bring something by around the end of next week, after things have settled.

Re: neighbors husband passed, what can i bring over?
My grandmother passed Dec 9 and the neighbor brought over some single servings of chicken pot pie, and lasagna with the heating instructions on them for the freezer. They have come in soooooo handy! She just bought some cheap tinfoilis ramakins to do it. You could also just go and chat and then in a month or so pop over with a hot meal or a dessert.
