nervous about my new job
I'm still finishing off my 2 weeks at my old job. It's going to be such a change for me. I'm the "go to" person over here.
I'm going to be new over there in a newly created position.
My future boss called today and we talked for about 10 minutes. I don't know why, but I got all nervous. I'm thinking- she knows that I'm still at this job, but she's already reaching out to me. I don't know- is that a good sign?
I'm getting nervous that I'll suck at the new job or they'll hate me or I won't be able to handle it.

Re: nervous about my new job
I think your feeling are normal...I just accepted and offer yesterday and I am feeling a little anxiety over it as well. I have always worked on long island and this job is in NYC so that is #1 big change.
It's also a TON of responsibility and I am nervous about that as well. My job now ( which I am also finishing my 2 wks at) is so simple a toddler could do it (which is also why it's boring) but I keep getting these really anxious feelings eventhough I welcome change and I am very excited. I know I can handle anything I put my mind to I am just really nervous about the "what if's"

Let me know if you want to talk. I think these feelings are totally normal, and I think it is a good sign your boss is already coming to you with things

I agree completely.
Listen, I think a lot of us have been there. I went from a job I was very comfortable in - but it wasn't going anywhere and I wasn only going to be promoted when those above me left - and they weren't going anywhere.
So I took a GIANT step - I got a fantastic offer, a 35% salary increase, and later a 15% bonus and 12% raise, not to mention the great benefits. The worries are still there - I'm still not 100% confident and I've been here a year now. I try and tell myself to take it one day at a time and things will be fine.
CONGRATS and GOOD LUCK !!!

Re: nervous about my new job
Thanks, everyone!
My biggest fear is leaving a job that I'm successful at only to end up sucking at the new one.

Re: nervous about my new job
I'm in a similar situation although my "new" job is at my current company. I've done executive level admin work for so long and this is a new role altogether that was created for me in finance. I've been so overwhelmed the past month and so scared the my new bosses are going to give second thoughts to why they gave me this role. Some days I'm not sure I can handle it, but other days I'm happy for the new challenge.
It's perfectly normal to feel that way. Change is scary, but you'll be fine!

Re: nervous about my new job
I think you will be fine. The fact that they are reaching out to you is a good sign. Whenever there is a new hire in my area, we always cant wait until they start....so your boss probably just wants you to start.
as for not being able to handle the job, and being the 'go to person', I am sure you will be able to handle the job, and eventually you will become that 'go to person.'
My current job, I took 2 years ago, I knew nothing when i was hired, and a few weeks later, I was already training someone...
I am sure you will do great
