Nervous about slow cooker
So I admit it, I am chicken to try a crockpot, but love the food from. I also love the idea of coming home to a cooked meal.
Is it really OK to leave it all day? I am so neurotic about unplugging the toaster and coffee maker after each use, I am nervous to leave something plugged in and cooking all day
Am I being crazy? Any crock ot tips for me?
TIA!

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
why dont you try and use it when you are home on the weekend. then you can see how hot it gets and maybe you will feel more comfortable using it.

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
you're not crazy, a lot of people are scared of leaving their crockpot on when they're not home. I've done it plenty of times and never had an issue but I agree with the PP, do it when you're home and maybe then you'll have a little peace of mind.

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
why don't you put in on overnight while you are sleeping (but home) and then it's cooked when you get up. Put it in the fridge, and reheat when you get home.

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
I'm totally neurotic about leaving things plugged in or running while not home, but I have no problem leaving the crockpot on. I was out all day today and had a pot roast cooking in the crock pot from 9:00 am until I got home around 6:00. But to make you feel better about it, I agree with the PP's about trying it out while you are home.

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
I've never had any issues either It really doesn't get hot (just warm - I don't leave anything around it), and it's as safe as leaving your fridge on IMO!

Re: Nervous about slow cooker
I was the same way. I am neorotic also with leaving the toaster on etc. Before we go away on vacation, we have a list we go down to make sure things are unplugged. But after trying it once home, I found it to be okay. There is nothing like opening your front door and smelling dinner , like someone else was cooking for you all day. Right now I have sausage and peppers cooking in mine. I heard it uses as much energy as leaving on a light.HTH
