Nervous as heck... updated... I chopped it

I'm planning on chopping my hair. I'm going to donate 10" to Locks Of Love. This will be my third time.

It's not the chopping part that has me nervous, it's that I think I want to 'do' something with my hair.

I've had the SAME hairstyle for a ton of years, and I'm bored with it. I have no bangs (I don't think I would look good with bangs?), no layers, it's just one length straight down to my butt.

Any suggestions?

A side part with a little side bang.

It is not total bangs which is pretty drastic and once you commit, they are there for a while.

With the side bang, it is cute and subtle. If you don't like it - you can pin it over until it grows out and it won't take long until you can tuck it behind your ear and you are good to go.

But, I think you will like it - they are fun and flirty. I can suggest a great hair person who LISTENS to what you want and actually DOES it. She is great because she shows you how to style it, how to blow it out and have it come out great. Her name is Jill and she cuts at Tapestry in Centereach.

So, I would do some light layers to give you some body in the back... Have a side part put in with a side bang for some style along with a few chips toward the face - nothing drastic but still cute and fun.

Then, after this cut you might feel more comfortable to go a little more daring with style -- take it step by step and take risks one cut at a time.

more like the second one - a little less subtle.

the first is full-on bangs, the second is a side bang, the third is somewhere in between. i know jill does a great subtle one because she does it on me but i don't know if you have someone you want to go to -- just ask the person to give you an idea of what it'll look like. he/she can part your hair and show you, with their finger, where it'll be cut so you can see how it will fall.

i think you'll really like it - super easy to blow out and makes a stylish difference.

I had full on bangs for many years. The only problem was that I had a small piece that had sort of a cowlick and it would curl up in a different direction if I didn't control it. Also, I was very picky about my bangs being just the right length. I would get them trimmed every 3 weeks. I would not do them myself because it's not as easy as it seems. They grew fast and even when I was growing them out, it was pretty quick! I really liked them but I don't want to go back to all that maintenance. Still, I'm sort of thinking that if you are ready to have bangs, go all out and get a cut like your first photo. Will you show us pictures?

I will donate the 10" to Locks of Love.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics with it all down because it was too long and I hated wearing it down so here it is at Christmas. It was down to my butt.


Need my eyebrows done, so hi. I think with my red shirt my hair is showing a lot more red than it actually is, I didn't touch the color.


It feels so light and I love it.

You hair is beautiful. And you still have so much of it left. I was expecting it to be shorter after cutting off that much.
