Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
I started this job in September...I accepted when I was not pregnant but started when I was. Now that the three months are here and we have told family and friends I need to tell my boss...but I am nervous.
How was everyone else's experience...I want to hear all because I need to prepare myself.

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
Well I was at my job for almost 2 years before I got pregnant and I'm 34 so I think they knew it was coming. It turns out that my boss was also pregnant - actually she just had her baby Friday and my due date was Saturday. Since we are both out at the same time we both need to work from home through our maternity leave. They made it work.
I will admit I was nervous too. I just reassured her that the pregnancy would not affect my job and that I was definitely returning after my maternity leave.
Good luck

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
My boss was so great about it. Because of how sick i was all the time, I told my boss pretty early on. He kept it under wraps until I was ready to tell everyone.
Hope all goes well, Ang! Sending extra I was nervous too. You'll feel better after you tell her.

I think that for the most part - most people see your age, that you are newly married, and know that you will be starting a family shortly after. I'm sure they will be great with the news!!!

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
I had been at my job for a little over six months when I found out I was PG. I told my boss when I was like 6 weeks, after the 1st doctor visit. I think they kind of already knew because I was really sick, and always munching on crackers and stuff well atleast my co-workers said they pretty much knew so I assuming my boss did.
My boss took it well she said congratulations and even hugged me I could'nt beleive it because she is not the affectionate type. So all went well Good Luck I am sure everything will be fine.

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
Thanks everyone...this is giving me more courage to tell her tomorrow. I am hoping that even if she has tp pretend, she will appear happy for me and I will be sure to follow up the news right away with the positives...like that I will continue to work as hard as I have been, that I will be here for the April review process and back in time for the October one, and that I plan on returning after my paid leave...no unpaid leave for me.
Hopefully this will all be okay.

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
I started my job on June 26th and found out I was pregnant on July 16th. I was nervous about telling my boss as well, being that I had just started. He took it well and I have had no problems so far. My whole company seems supportive. Good luck and try not to worry.

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
I started my job maybe 3 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. I waited a little while of course to tell my boss. I think I may have told him when I was 2 months along. I wasn't really nervous b/c there is nothing they can do about it; they cannot discriminate against you. The only thing you need to look into is their maternity leave policy. Plus, keep in mind, that if you are not with your company for a yr. you are not applicable for FMLA.

Re: Nervous...tomorrow I tell my boss
Don't be nervous. I think you make it worse on yourself. They will most likley be more than happy for you. Just be prepared to answer questions about how you want to handle it, i.e. how much leave you plan to take, etc. It will all go well I'm sure!

Even though you are not applicable for FMLA, they still have to give you either 6 or 8 weeks after the birth, right?

My company gives me 6 wks. which sucks and is ridiculous. I plan on taking my full 12 wks (if I wind up going back to work). My job isnt really my "career"...I am not sure what your situation is. But I dont plan on asking what I can take, I plan on telling them what I will take.
