neurosurgeon referrals - for plagiocephaly?
I want to take my 6 mth old dd to a neurosurgeon for an expert's opinion on my daughter's head shape. She had a bit of a flat head from lying in one position too often and it's a lot better but I want to have her seen now while she's still young.
My ped referred us to Dr Mittler - I've read good things about him here when I did a search but he doesn't take our insurance For those of you that went there, did they give you a break if they didn't take your insurance?
For those that have gone to this type of specialist for your baby, did they automatically send you for an MRI/ct scan before giving you a diagnosis or treating the baby?
Can you refer your neurosurgeon?
Thanks!

Re: neurosurgeon referrals - for plagiocephaly?
My son was sent of a cat scan by his ped. first before he was going to be referred to a neurologist.
I don't have a referral for you but if your DS does need a cat scan and you want to know about our experience please feel free to PM me.

I dont have a Neurosurgeon to refer BUT my daughter has been seen by the same Neurologist since she was 2 1/2 months (she's 13 now) I could put in a call to her and see who she would recommend..FM me if you would like some info.

Re: neurosurgeon referrals - for plagiocephaly?
Thanks all.
I was told to specifically see a neurosurgeon rather than a neurologist since this is an external cosmetic issue. I guess with the whole back to sleep campaign the surgeons are broadening their specialty a bit.
Sarah's head is really almost fine...*I* see it a bit so I want to speak with a specialist but if you guys saw her in person you would think she was just perfect So I'm leaning towards sticking with our referral and hoping they cut us a break on the fee since they don't take our insurance. I'm also not sure what to expect at an appt like this

I went to Dr Mitler..he is very good.. I had to pay $400 out of pocket but well worth it for the piece of mind.

Re: neurosurgeon referrals - for plagiocephaly?
just wanted to update:
We took Sarah to the specialist today and she's great! No need for any special therapy, her head is already so much better What a relief! I was so afraid she'd need a helmet.
Thanks everyone.

I didn't get a break from Dr. Mittler. AND, I keep getting a bill...my insurance company sent them a check (a small one, but STILL) and they keep sending me the bill for the full amount. They haven't cashed the check. I even had the ins. company send ANOTHER check. I called the office and said I'm not paying until they cash the check and send me an updated bill. Still getting the bill for the full amount.
So, he's a great doctor and well worth the money ($400 ), but now this is really starting to annoy me.
