new and sadly not on the boards i had hoped for
hi. i was a first time pregnant and just got the sad news. i dont know who to talk to so hopefully you dont mind the questions.
how long can I wait to see if my body handles this on its own before I have to get a D&C
if I get a D&C do I have to be put under? that scares me to no end... can i be awake?
how long before my next AF and before I can try again?
im sad

I wouldnt wait longer than 2 weeks.
You do not want to be awake for a D&C. You will be under General Anesthesia, its not a big deal at all... One of my best friends is an anesthesiologist and she said the percentage of people who have a reaction to it is less than 1%. You may feel sick after or be emotional but thats totally normal because you cant eat before hand and also the circumstances of why you need it.
Generally they say 6-8 weeks after is when you get AF. Mine was quicker i ovulated 10 days later then got AF 14 days after that. As far as when you can try again you have to speak with your Dr about what they want you to do.

I’m so sorry for your loss!! I have no experience with D&C (I had a natural miscarriage), but can say that the thing with waiting for your body to do it naturally, is that you never really know when it’s going to happen. Are you bleeding/cramping? I got my period about a month after and the doc told us to wait 3 months before trying again. Again, I’m so sorry. The women on this board are really a great support!!

why do you say not to be awake? im just weighing the thoughts of me being put out which again scares me to no end, versus like 15 minutes of discomfort. am i way off?

Re: new and sadly not on the boards i had hoped for
no cramping yet. i would much rather let this happen naturally, i think i would feel better about the whole thing. i just dont know how long i can wait.
i went a week ago, had a SFH, and with my follow up, nothing. so i had to have lost it within the past week, i figure giving my body a week or so is not outlandish, but what do i know?
ive read somewhere, not sure where, but there are pills to help? is that true? ugh this is so frustrating. this is not how i had hoped this would go, obviously, but i just want it over,

Re: new and sadly not on the boards i had hoped for
I am so sorry!!
I did not want a D&C so I waited it out for a long time.
I started miscarrying a week after I found out.
It took 7 weeks to fully miscarry on my own. 7 weeks of bleeding and 2 rounds of cramping.
It was an awful, emotional process but I am glad I let my body take care of it.
I am deathly afraid of anesthesia and any surgery.

Re: new and sadly not on the boards i had hoped for
I am sorry for your loss. As for how long to wait....What does your dr. say? I would think they would guide you.... As for the D&C, you can be awake for it. However, I would not advise it. I had 2 D&C's, I was awake for one of them and it was a far more unpleasant experience thatn the one I was asleep for.
As for your next AF.....they tell you to wait, but I didn't. I got a BFP 3 weeks after my last D&C and it was a successful pregnancy. However, your dr. may advise waiting.....and depending on how you feel it may be a good idea. Sorry that you have to be here and for the burden we all share.

I'm so so sorry for your loss.
As for what to do, my last loss, I was given the choice -- miscarry naturally or a D&C. I weighed the options and decided to go for the D&C. I was struggling with actually having the natural miscarriage in my home....In my bathroom. My dr's had told me to collect it to bring it in for testing as I wanted answers, but there was some concern if I would get it all-- or if the air would contaminate the small amounts of tissue. I was also nervous if it would all come out. At least with the D&C I knew it would all be out. For me, the emotional toll of the loss was enough - let alone days of cramping and tissue collecting. I don't think I could have handled it.
I had a D&E last year so I knew what I was in for at least so it helped a bit with the decision.
I'm so sorry again for what you are going through.

Re: new and sadly not on the boards i had hoped for
i had both a natural m/c and a d&c. From my experience the natural m/c was far more physically uncomfortable. I had horrible cramping, bleeding, clots (TMI SORRY) until i passed the sac. I was crying all day long as it was occuring (i was 8 weeks). The d/c was just as upsetting but i woke up after the procedure (it was done at the hospital) and i had minimal cramping and minimal bleeding, just groggy; i went home and slept until the next morning. I tried to wait it out and let my body take care of it naturally but after about a week of waiting I was going crazy, googling online and looking for some false hope that the DR was wrong. I called and scheduled my d&c after i realized how crazy i was getting and just making myself more upset. I was 10 weeks.
sorry you have to go through this, it is never easy
