New Bathroom - estimated costs
Looking for ideas as to how much it might cost me to gut a full bathroom and start from scratch.
new toilet, shower, sink new walls, tile new floor, tile light fixtures
Assuming I'm purchasing everything at Home Depot/Lowes and not WaterWorks.

Honestly I would say around $5k.. If you are going to get a vanity I would budget more.

Re: New Bathroom - estimated costs
Even just shopping at HD or Lowe's there are plenty of variables.
I am in the middle of this.
So far for me:
- Tile: from $0.99/sq ft to $2 for slate (what I want)... you can go even higher. Little tile molding borders can run $6 for a little piece that is 8 inches. That's what will "kill" you.
- Toilet: $200
- Bathtub: $200. Deep soaking (just deeper no jets) and nice brand $500-$600
- Sink: As set with vanity $200-$400. With individual granite, sink and cabinet ... much more
- Faucet: $120-$200 for nickel finish. Nice brand and not bottom of the line.
You also need to count for the shower head, toilet holder, towel bar, medicine cabinet/mirror.
And all the construction materials, concrete boards, nails, etc..

Re: New Bathroom - estimated costs
We just redid our bathroom, total gut job (the only thing we didnt replace was the tub b/c it is cast iron, would have added on a whole bunch of costs and we live in a coop anyway so we just refinished it). We bought all the fixtures at home depot, vanity, marble top and medicine cabinet from Consumers, and the total came to just over 10,000. Before we stated we thought we could do it for 5-7,000, that dream was short lived. We had about 5-6 contractors give us estiamtes and we actually (on a recommendtion) went with the one with the lowest estimate. It came out beautiful and was toatlly worth it but it was def more expensive than we had origianlly thought.

Re: New Bathroom - estimated costs
This is our current project.
We live in a coop and have a small bathroom. Unfortunately, it needs to be gutted to the bare walls.
We plan on leaving the tub as its cast iron & it would cost us more $$ to have someone come in and remove it than to just have it reglazed.
We plan on doing tile half up the walls with the exception of the shower/tub area - we would go to the ceiling. Tile on the floor.
We also need to replace the toliet to a tank - right now its the one that has the pipe in the wall.
We need a new sink area & some paint. We also need fixtures. Everything will more than likely come from Lowes or HD.
DH plans to do the work himself with the help of my brother. We are HOPING we can stay in the $3500 range...hoping being the key word here.
