New Boat owners...
So DH and I just bough a boat for the first time. Its opening up another world for us. Does anyone have and good boating advice?
Also, if you are a boat owner, what kind of boat do you have?

If you haven't already, take a boaters safety coarse. That's the only and best advice I can give.

We have a seaswirl.
Best advice I can give is get insurance and like the other poster said take the boaters safety course. It teaches you a lot of info that you NEED to navigate on the water, and all the rules. Things like red right return when entering a channel, etc. Simple things can get you stuck or really hurt. If you have never had a boat before, there is really so much to learn. Please take the course!!

ITA.
Also know how to read a map, buoys, lights. You need to be able to get around without depending on electrical devices to get you somewhere.

Re: New Boat owners...
definetly get insurance for your boat. Two years ago there was really bad weather and the waves kept pushing our boat into the dock and we had 30k in damages and if we didnt have the insurance we would have never been able to fix it. Good Luck. Take the safety course and obey the 5 mph signs.

Good Luck and enjoy! We have a 13' Boston Whaler and its just sitting in our side yard..... We also use IL's 36' trojan and go out on the Great South Bay over to Fire Island (Watch Hill).

I totally agree
we were boat club members - so I HAD to take the class
but I can read any chart etc
so I got eased into boat ownership, learning how to dock (even better when you don't own the boat) and even having boats break down on me
I am sure we will buy our own in the near future

I don't own a boat, but my friend does and I can say that we got stuck often and sea tow helped so much!
