New Career oppurtunity

My parents approached me yesterday...they would like me to come and work with them...to train to take over their business. They want to be able to spend long weekends on their boat on in Florida...but they need someone be in the office running things.

We haven't ironed out all the details...but it looks like it is going to happen.

I'm super excited about this...but I feel so bad leaving the co that I am at now...I really love it here and my boss is so great.

My parents told me that if I need to give her more than the usual 2 wks notice they understand because my boss has been so great to me when my grandmother passed away and when my son was in the hospital.

How long do you think I should give?

P.S. I plan on actually notifying her on Monday.

TIA

Re: New Career oppurtunity

I would say 4-6 weeks is a really good amount of tiem for them to advertise for and hire a replacement. Ideally if you could overlap with the new person for a week or two in order to do a handover and train them a bit, it would probably be much appreciated.

Best not to burn any bridges!

Re: New Career oppurtunity

I agree...4 weeks sounds good. However, stick to your plan and if they don't have someone in four weeks, then that is their problem.

I would only give a month...it's hard when you give that much notice.
