New friendships
Do you find it easy to 'take the next step' in a friendship? For example...let say you are friendly with a new co-worker - are you the one that'll take the first step to take the friendship outside of work (ask her to join you for lunch, or a shopping outing, etc)?
Or are you shy about that? Or are you just not looking for any new friends?

Re: New friendships
To be honest, I am not looking for new friends- I can barely keep track of the ones I have. But I do go out often and do invite "new" friends to come along- especially single people. DH and I go out a lot where there are singles.

Re: New friendships
I am not interested in making any new friendships with co-workers.....but if I meet someone new from LIW/LIF, the gym, nail salon, etc. SURE I will take the first step.

Re: New friendships
I'm too shy around people I don't know. I have no idea how to make new friends. I have lived in NJ for almost 3 years....and I don't really have any friends (except Jess2 )

Re: New friendships
I'm never shy about making new friends. DH gets mad because he says I'm too friendly but that's the way I am and if I get a new friend out of it then that makes me happy.

Re: New friendships
I am shy- I have a definite fear of rejection. And like Shellyesq said, I too am struggling to keep up with the friends I have, especially since we no longer live in Queens near my friends.

Re: New friendships
I'm friendly at work, will introduce everyone and will go out to lunch with someone new BUT once it's 4:58pm - I'm out of the office. I do work from the train - and will talk to some people on the train mainly if they intiate, but outside of the actual place we've met - I rarely venture outside my own circle of friends.
Oh - except one person on LIF who needed help. I broke ranks for her & went to her house.

Re: New friendships
i don't initiate often. i can be painfully shy. and I dread the time when the friendship ends- it is so awkward and sad.

Re: New friendships
I tend to think of myself as shy - I'm always afraid of pushing the friendship further than the other person is ready to go, so I think I often tend not to make the first move. However, I think it varies from relationship to relationship. I can think of people who I felt comfortable enough with to say, "hey, do you want go out to dinner sometime?" Yet, there are others who I would wait to ask me.

Seriously! I think that's b/c it can be harder to establish friendships with women than men, sometimes. It's harder to read women - at least for me.

Re: New friendships
I have no problem approaching people and trying to move friendships to the next level. However, if I don't see any effort to reciprocate or engage in anything deeper, I sort of leave it alone.

Re: New friendships
I am shy at first too (not after you I get to know you though) and I don't think I've ever been the one to take the first step. It's true that sometimes it's harder than dating!! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

Same here. I am shy in groups of people I don't know, but people I am friendly with I am very outgoing.
