New Here - Have a Couple of Questions

Hi everyone! I just got married in November and this forum is scaring me a little bit. This is going to be my last month of taking the pill and then I would like to take a couple of months to regulate my cycle. I would like to be preggo around the summertime but if it happens before then, that's great. My sister had a hard time getting preggo (took over 3 years) and reading some of these posts makes me feel some anxiety as if I should start ttc right away just in case. How long did everyone try on their own before they started checking their temps and buying ovulation kits? Also, my doctor already gave me a prescription for folic acid - when should I astart taking these? Thanks!!!

Start taking folic acid now and a multi vitamin. We have been trying to concieve since after our honeymoon 1 and 1/2 years ago but we now know the issues and our working to correct those. Start by having fun don't worry about things and what other people are going through. Enjoy being together at this point and if you become Pg then GREAT!

Re: New Here - Have a Couple of Questions

I started the prenatal pills before I was even off the Birth control.

Regarding your other question I would do what you feel comfortable doing. I've been off the pills for 8 months and I just started really paying attention to my body. (looking for cm, writing it down on a chart) but I have not started the temping and ovulation kit nor do i know if I am going to.

FOR ME....its too stressful just checking for CM and looking for signs so I can only imagine how I would be if I start tracking it all. And DH wants us to just enjoy ourselves trying without all of the pressure. So we both decided to do that until we feel ready to take further steps.

Good Luck and WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Here - Have a Couple of Questions

I got off the pill in mid Aug. I was on it for 8yrs. I didn't get AF till Oct and that is when I started taking my temps. I didnt get AF again till Dec and now I am taking my temps more seriously and using OPK's this month. I thought I would get off the pill and be regular since I was before going on and I would get PG right away. Well it hasn't happened yet. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: New Here - Have a Couple of Questions

I started taking prenatals a few months before I knew I was going to TTC.

I never took the pill (but always used protection - sorry if TMI) and my AF has always been very regular. Last month was month one of TTC and we just did it the natural way. But, this month I used OPK's. I swore I wouldn't start using anything this early on in trying but, i have to say - i didn't expect to feel the way i did last month. When you are ttc it is almost as if the whole process can consume you and I figured since i was stressing anyway i mine as well increase my odds.

I am praying to God that this will be my last month TTC but, if not, i will probably start charting soon too.

My age definitely has something to do with it. It is totally stupid but I am 29 and I know myself - if i am not pg before 30 (almost a year away) - I will sink into a deep depression Chat Icon

Re: New Here - Have a Couple of Questions

For me there is absolutely no reason NOT to use OPK's. The guessing would make me a lot more crazy than the testing my urine once a day for 2 or 3 days. JMO!

My suggestion would be to take notice of your cervical mucous. As you approach ovulation your CM will get very watery then it will start to look like egg white. Thin and stretchy. I usually start testing when I see this. I usually get my positive about 1-2 days after I see EWCM. Since this is your first month doing it you may want to start using them around 10 days after the 1st day of your period to establish a pattern.
