New Here...

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. Started out lurking and have found out so much just by reading all your stories. It's amazing to me that so many women are going through this.

I am 35 and DH & I have been TTC for 2 years using OPK's for the last 10 months. So far I have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I'm on my 3rd IUI with clomid and in my 2WW. If this doesn't work I will probably try some natural cycles with IUI (clomid is making me nutty...poor DH!) and then move to IVF in the Spring.

I currently use RSONY but for IVF am considering Cornell or RMA in the city as they seem to have very high success rates for women my age. If anyone has any comments about their expereiences with any of these places it would be very helpful. Also, any tips on whether you opted for refund program or just went one cycle at a time as my insurance does not cover IVF.

Thanks in advance:)Chat Icon

Re: New Here...

Welcome Kat,

You sound a lot like me. I too go to Rsofny and I will be switching to Cornell, as well, if things don't work out at Rsofny, in the near future.

How many mg, of clomid are you taking ? Have you tried femara ? Does clomid help you produce a lot of follies ?

Re: New Here...

I've been going to Cornell for over a year now, after going to a local LI clinic (3 IVF's there), and my results and care have been a thousand times better. Of course I'm not pg either.

I don't have insurance for IVF either. Cornell doesn't take most insurances anyway. They do send you prefilled forms to send to your insurance company, and I usually wind up getting back a couple of thousand each cycle (for b/w and sonos).

Good luck, and feel free to FM me if you have any questions! Chat Icon

Re: New Here...

Welcome Kat Chat Icon

I started at RS of NY but now have moved onto NYU. So far I am very happy with my treatment there, they do all bloodwork between 7am-9am and I've been in and out w/in 20 mins (sonos probably could take longer)

Not to talk bad about RS of NY, but the future course of action I was told to take has been rejected now by 2 other drs at 2 different clinics (I went for 2nd & 3rd opinions)

I am hoping to do IVF w/in the next few weeks and we are completely self - pay. NYU only accepts Aetna I think.

Good luck to you! And I hope your stay on the boards is very short Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: New Here...

Thanks Everyone for your kind words and very helpful information.

I started with 50 mg of clomid the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle was 100mg and 3rd was 150mg. The 3rd I took only 4 days because I woke up seeing flashes of light (side effect) Has this happened to anyone else? Also, feeling very bloated.

Because I'm self pay I only had one sono the 1st month on the 50mg which I had 15.5mm follicle, 14mm and 11mm on CD 14. Got my surge on CD16 and had IUI on CD17 with 52 million count.

No sono's the 2nd & 3rd. The 2nd cycle I surged on CD17 and had IUI on CD18 with 62 million count. They did blood work to confirm I was ovulating. The thrid cycle I surged on CD16 and had IUI with 20 million count (DH & I BD the night before) so we will see.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Kat, I went to RMA in the city. My endocrinologist recommended them. I had a very positive experience with them.

I saw Dr. Sandler primarily-- I liked him a lot. I could imagine though that some people might NOT like him, because he is very factual and scientific in his conversation, but not really warm. I liked him a lot though because he always explained everything in detail, and never talked down to you.

The nurses and staff there are great. If you call with a question, a nurse will call you back, often within 10 minutes. If you'd prefer to wait to speak to a doctor, they would call that evening, guaranteed.
