Re: new here and student teaching question
Good luck to you! It's such an exciting and new experience. My best advice right off the bat? Be as open to suggestions and as helpful to your cooperating teacher as you possibly can, and try to soak it all in. I've been teaching for 8 years, but I still remember student teaching vividly (and I've had some student teachers myself), so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Re: new here and student teaching question
Student teaching was the best experience for me- well at least the 1st half when I had to do elem. music (my high school situation wasn't my favorite). Learn everything you can and try to get as much experience taking over the class as possible. ENJOY!!

Re: new here and student teaching question
Great district and fun grade levels.
My advice be open to constructive criticism. get involved right away. ask if you can do read-alouds, work 1:1 with students, etc. etc.---do the east things first and work your way. ask the cooperating teacher if there is anything you can do to help. they like to see initiative. also, ask them about their teaching philosophy... WHY do they do what they do.... ask for copies of worksheets and materials so you can build up your library of resources, etc. etc. Also, see if it is possible to observe other teachers and grades in addition to your student teaching classroom (this can be done on prep. periods). this will show your enthusiasm and get you noticed as well as give you the opportunity to see the curriculum on other grade levels.

Re: new here and student teaching question
I have a student teacher right now. (Actually right now she is teaching my class and I am listening in the back.) She is doing a great job. She is open to criticism and wants to hear everything I have to tell her. It is important to learn from your mistakes.
