New METS Channel to be carried by Cablevision - UPDATE: Now on channel 60
Word on the street says that SportsnetNY (the new Mets Channel) and Cablevision have reached a tentative agreement for Cablevision to carry the Mets.
SNY is owned by TimeWarner and Comcast... and there is no love lost between Cablevision and Time Warner. Cablevision and Time Warner were involved in a lawsuit last year over the Mets pulling their agreement with the Cablevision owned MSG channel.
But it looks like Mets fans will not miss a game.... unlike what happened with the YES network and Cablevision a few years ago. I heard one story saying the Mets channel would take over CSPAN-2 on the Cablevision network. But I am not sure yet. Also not sure if it will be broadcast in HDTV. I hope so because its definitely shown in HDTV on the Time Warner network.
This is GREAT news for us Mets fans on Long Island! I was expeting this to be a major issue.
UPDATE: I SPOKE TOO SOON. Cablevision pulled the plug.
UPDATE: Its now on! Channel 60.

Re: New METS Channel to be carried by Cablevision - UPDATE: Not right now
Cablevision pulled the plug a day before SNY was supposed to air. Damm bastids... couldn't count on them for nothing.
Hopefully we will be up and running by the time the season starts.

SNY, Cablevision reach deal BY NEIL BEST Newsday Staff Writer
March 23, 2006, 1:53 PM EST
SportsNet New York reached a carriage agreement with Cablevision Thursday, doubling the regional sports network's distribution and calming Mets fans who were concerned that they would be shut out of their team's games this season.
SNY launched March 16 and since then has been in serious talks with the Long Island-based cable TV giant, which has about 3 million customers. Previously, SNY had been available in about 3 million homes, primarily through Comcast and Time Warner, which are part owners of the network.
Cablevision homes were expected to have access to SNY sometime Thursday night, when a Mets spring training game against the Marlins was to be shown. The network will be carried on Channel 60.
SNY will show 125 Mets games this season.
Next on SNY's agenda are the two largest satellite TV providers, DirecTV and Dish Network. A deal with DirecTV seems more likely. Dish does not carry the Yankees' YES Network.
The Mets' opener is April 3.

Just checked channel 60 and they had a classic Mets game on. SNY is now in service!
So we are now good to go.
