New Mommy & Baby Group
When my son was born, my dr told me to limit his exposure to other people and especially kids until he is 2 months old.
The place where I had my lamaze class is offering a New Mommy & Baby group for babies 0-3 months. Do you think I can go or do I have to wait until the baby is 2 months? If I have to wait, why do they have these groups -- you'd think these places would know.

I personally would wait....
But Im anal about germs...
While I dont believe a child should be sheltered (because after all germs help build there immune systems) If a child that little gets sick, they have to go through so much....
Thats JMO- Ive seen plenty of people out with like week old babys at like walmart...and im sure they are all just fine!

For me it would depend on if siblings were allowed.

Re: New Mommy & Baby Group
IMO I probably wouldn't bring the baby around other babies until about 6-8 weeks of age. I think taking a baby out to a store is different in that there is no direct contact with others.

Same here. If your baby gets sick and gets even a slight fever before 8 wks, it's a 3 day stay in the NICU and a spinal tap. Not worth it, IMO.

Re: New Mommy & Baby Group
Isn't the doctor referring to older kids who would be tempted to touch your baby? At a group like you describe, I'm guessing the baby would just be lying on his own blanket right in front of you and would have no physical contact with other babies. So, I don't really see how he'd be exposed to germs unless you were touching all the surfaces and then sticking your fingers in his mouth.
I went to a similar group at six weeks and thought it was great for my sanity.

Re: New Mommy & Baby Group
I go to around 4 baby groups a week and the youngest babies seem to be around six weeks, I think I started taking my son at that age.
Its brilliant for your sanity to get out to some baby groups! I go to one on a Monday that has around 60 toddlers in the toddler room and the baby room usually has around 10-15 babies. Its total mayhem and my little one loves the stimulation. I love talking to the other mothers and comparing notes. At the end of this group there is a big sing-song with a guitar player and a fiddle player! They kids love it and the infants love to be bounced around to the sound of the wheels on the bus!
