or SAHM, does DH help you w / the night feedings, or do you get up every time?

I am home on maternity and DH helps me w/ the night feedings. I feel so bad bc he is working but at the same time, I am sooooo tired during the night I appreciate the help

Re: new moms currently home on maternity

After I had my son, my husband always got up to do the middle of the night feeding (usually 1-2 am). I felt bad, but he wanted to do it. He said that he loved that time to spend with our sonChat Icon

I can speak for when DD was first born. DH was very helpful in the beginnin gwhile he was home and when he first went back to work but it caught up with him.

Eventually DD and I started to sleep in the guest room for a while and I really only tried to ask for help when I felt like I was at a breaking point. He never gave me a hard time about it.

Well DS is only a week old and DH has been home so he has been doing the first half of the night. However, we had discussed this before the baby was born and he agreed he would do it even when he was working so we'll see how that goes!!

I am so lucky. We usually feed Anthony @ 12- 1 am and he sleeps until 5-7. So I do all of the feeings and stuff, bt DH does stay up with me until last feedingChat Icon

ETA - DH sleeps upstairs in the bedroom and I sleep 2 levels down in the den, so he doesn't hear any crying

He's been helping but only because he's been on vacation for the past 2 weeks since Emerson has been born. He's going back to work on Monday so I will take over the night feedings exclusively because I am a SAHM and he needs to be on his game at work. On the weekends he will help with those feedings. I don't mind since I'm not working and I can catch naps during the day when I need to.

Re: new moms currently home on maternity

I am on maternity leave. Most of the time I hear him first so I get up. During the weekends, DH helps out more. Dh usually does the 11 pm feeding because he is up until then and I go to bed around 9/10 so I can do the 2/3 feeding. I do the rest of the feedings though. I go back to work in 5 weeks so at that time I will probably have DH do the 11 pm feeding and then I will do the 2/3 feeding and then whoever will do the 5 am feeding since we both will get up at that time.

Re: new moms currently home on maternity

Nope, I did them all pretty much. He took 5 weeks off and during that time he would wake up with me. I had a C-section, so he would change any diapers, but after that he went back to bed.

Once he went back to work, he pretty much didn't get up anymore unless DS was really carrying on for a while (he'd come out to make sure everything was OK). I didn't really mind, but I would go out for a while on Saturday mornings to get a break and he would take care of DS during those 5-6 hours. For me, that was a better deal, so that's what worked for us.

Re: new moms currently home on maternity

my DH has to get up at 5am for work every other week, so he doesn't help... i am BFing so it's not really a big deal.

the other weeks when he has to get up at 7am for work, he will change DS's diaper, but probably only once during the night.

it really doesn't bother me, i have to be up to feed him anyway, and i am home so i can nap during the day Chat Icon

Re: new moms currently home on maternity

I'm 4 weeks PP and my DH does help me get up during the night...he will take 1 feeding at night.
At first he wasn't helping at all, but I was becoming a zombie so I asked him to help and he has and its made a world of difference...I sooo appreciate his help.

i totally understand! I felt bad asking him to take a feeding, but honestly he is going to have to do it when I go back to work anyway, so he might as well start nowChat Icon
