New neighbors are horrible, what would you do? - Update #2

THe house next door to ours is a long story. When we moved in there were a lot of families living in it. Basically it was a bunch of illegal apartments. The town was tipped off and they were all kicked out.

For the past year and a half, someone has been working on the house. A few months ago a for sale sign went up. Over the weekend, it seemed people were moving in.
We can't figure out what is going on. It seems like there are at least 5-6 teenagers that come and go all day long. They don't park in the driveway, but in front of our house. They are constantly walking across our lawn to get to their house. Last night they were outside smoking and flicking cigarette butts onto our lawn. DH said when he left both today and yesterday there were no cars in front of the house (he leaves at 6am)
The for sale sign is still in front of the house.

update - Thought I would update. Haven't heard back from the realtor. I also called the town yesterday and left a message and haven't heard anything back from them either. I called housing who transferred me to building - I left a message with the code violations dept. I guess no one cares.

UPDATE #2 - the town called yesterday and they are sending an inspector. She said it would take a week to 10 days because they are very busy this time of year.
I'll let you all know if anything comes of the inspection!

call your town immediately! report it! if necessary tell the police if something you see is shady...
don't dilly dally, take care of it up front -let them know you mean business.

Sounds like the son of someone (Realtor or the person that was fixing it up) is using it as a hang out. I would call the town and the police.

I would call the REA and make a complaint and if nothing is done, contact the REA supervisor.

And/or call the police when their is mischief.

I agree with this....it is also possible they are renting it to college students or something in the meantime - while they're trying to sell it.

But I would definitely contact the agent and get some answers!
Good luck!!

I would call the town or go to the town hall to complain.
Our neighborhood is about 30% seasonal only residents and a few winters ago a house that was vacant for the winter(the owners were in Florida) had squatters move into it!!! Chat Icon
These were young adults that knew the owners & knew they were in Florida so the broke in & lived there almost all winter until another neighbor realized & called & reported it!

ITA with this too. I would call and complain to the Realtor about what is going on and that something doesn't sit right. Hopefully they can do something for you.

Re: New neighbors are horrible, what would you do?

Thanks everyone!
I just left a message with the REA. I'll start there and see what happens.
This morning I saw yet someone else that appears to be living there - a woman with a little girl. Then this afternoon an SUV pulled up in front of the house, a woman got out and about 5 people came out of the house to meet her. And there are teenagers still walking across our yard! Chat Icon

is how our neighbor's kids set our LAWN on fire! Chat Icon

This happened before we moved in and there was a lot of brush and dead leaves under it. Once I found that out, I kept an eye on them because they like to flick the butts in the street.

When I found any bottles, butts, garbage, etc. over there, I picked it up and threw it on their driveway. They still park there but the smoking & hanging out has lessened.

I hope your situation gets taken care of ASAP!

Thought I would update. Haven't heard back from the realtor. I also called the town yesterday and left a message and haven't heard anything back from them either. I called housing who transferred me to building - I left a message with the code violations dept. I guess no one cares.

Keep calling until you get an answer. It's not right. See if your other neighbors are upset about this as well and maybe they have called at well. And if they don't answer your calls, I would go down to your town and demand to speak with someone. It's not right if they are not the new owners. Lots of luck! Chat Icon

It could just be the holiday weekend and people taking their vacations this week that's causing the delay - be persistant.
