New Orleans Hotel Suggestions
I'm looking for a hotel that's in the middle of everything, if that's possible. I don't want to rent a car if I don't need to. Do you think I can get away with not renting one? Also, what are some hotels in good locations?

ABSOLUTELY! There is no need for a car IMO..
THe Omni Royal and Royal Sonesta are good.. I also stayed at the new Marriott they just built, which was very nice..

ITA on both counts...car is not necessary. Omni Royal is a great place to stay.

Re: New Orleans Hotel Suggestions
Thanks everyone! I ended up booking a 4 star a few blocks from the French Quarter and I'm happy with the price I'm paying for airfare/hotel as a package. I'm excited! Now I need to research the different things that I absolutely must do when I'm there!

Re: New Orleans Hotel Suggestions
I used to live in New Orleans!
I'd also recommend the W on Poydras. I usually stay there when I go. Rooms are not huge but who needs huge? Price is great and the bar in the hotel is great for late night. Also very close to all the action.

If you want some restaurant suggestions, let me know! Some must spots:
Mothers (for po boys) Jacques-Imos (out of the way from downtown but worth it) Port of Call August (really nice dinner) Cochon d ick & Jenny's
etc. etc. I could go on all day!

I will FM you pricing. I actually had enough points on Jet Blue for the airfare but because of the way they package everything I know what it would have cost me. I got a tip through my favorite travel website (travelzoo) that fares had dropped and although I'm not going when it is the cheapest, it was the reason I started searching yesterday. The advertised price was $159 Roundtrip from NYC, including taxes and can be viewed here

No need for a car - check out Soniat House. It's in the French Quarter but offers an intimate garden courtyard and you're not on top of all the noise. www.slh.com

The Monteleone!! Stayed there twice!
Try lunch or dinner at Remoulade's on Bourbon. The food is awesome and you don't need to get dressed up.
Also, the brunch at The Court of Two Sisters is outrageous!
