New Porch Railing
So, DH and I have been having a disagreement over the last day. We have a full porch on our house and a partial on the back. Currently, the bannisters and columns are wood and they are starting to rot. I think it will be time for replacement soon.
Everything I keep seeing online (which is my initial research) seems like PVC is what most builders use for railings. DH seems to think that we should be getting something like manufactured wood (cant think of the exact name) and then paint it.....do they even MAKE such a thing for porch railings? If they do, and you used the manufcatured wood, do you like it-- is it a lot more expensive than PVC?
Thanks!

Re: New Porch Railing
You mean like Trex? http://www.trex.com/products/decking-and-railing/
They do have railings, but you can't paint them. You pick your color, and that's it. Similar to vinyl siding.
I have PVC railings, so I have no input as far as whether or not it's a good option.

Re: New Porch Railing
Yes, that trex/composite wood is what my sister and BIL used when they re-did their entire house for their porch and back deck.

New Porch Railing
Thanks. yes, I guess trex is what DH was thinking of. We dont need a new porch, just the railings. Do you know if trex is significantly more expensive than PVC? Any ideas on which holds up better over time?
