New Puppy Advice

We just adopted a puppy a few weeks ago. He is a terrier mix and has been really good. We are currently working on training him to go on the wee wee pads as he cant go outside yet because he needs another vaccine still.
We are currently battling the jumping and chewy on everything phase. Can you recommend any tips on getting him to stop jumping on the furniture especially my kitchen table! Also any recommendations in toys we bought a few already but he rather chew on my kids toys and it's turning into a battle in here lol!

New Puppy Advice

Where you keep your god, I would remove any of your kids toys and only have his there in a basket. That way he learns these are his toys. Play with him using his toys and praise him.
For jumping, I don't mind my dog on the couch and she's too small to jump of anything else- she even needs a little step to get on the couch- what I do with her when she's looking to get into stuff is block her response of actually doing it and then tell her no firmly. She learned very quickly. With the pads it's tough- she goes outside but then during the day she sometimes is home for like 10 hours alone. I do have my mom come those days and let her out, but still. Early on where's she gated I covered the room in pads- then over time I learned her "spots" and eventually faded the pads. Now she has one spot in the corner of the room with the pads down. When she was having accidents and we were home and saw it, we would bring her to the spot, firmly tell her no and then she went in her crate for 15 minutes with no attention (for her our attention is the thing she looks for all the time) after we took her out of the crate she would immediately go out and we would stay out until she went to the bathroom and then she got a treat and praise immediately. I know they say don't use crate as a punisher but we also paired her crate with preferred things like left treats in there- she doesn't usually hang out in there m- usually just in her bed, but the crate we use as "down time or break time" so it's not highly aversive to her. She rarely had accidents in the house. I think she had one in the last 2 months. She was a little tough to train because we got her in the winter and she was a puppy mill rescue and TERRIFIED of going outside. Like would hide when she had to go out.

Keep him Crated when not in the room with him and when you are in the room - your attention has to be on him so you can correct bad behavior. If you're preoccupied, it's harder to correct. With my rottie - I would keep her on her leash and she was always attached to me. So she was either crated, leashed or outside until she could be trusted.

It's hard for them to unlearn bad stuff - so be on top of him now, and you'll have a great dog for a long time
