new recall on Mattel toys

In about an hour there will be a new list on recalled toys again.

How do you all feel about this and do you think it will change your thinking on buying toys for your children? What do we do for Christmas and the holidays. I am afraid to buy anything nowChat Icon

Re: new recall on Mattel toys

I just saw the news conference on tv just now.

They extended it to include Toys with Magnets with and/or Lead paint issues.
Polly Pocket, Cars, Batman.

I get emails from cpsc so hopefully i'll get it soon with the list.

This is so bad, I look at all the stuff I have that was made in China, and it makes me wonder, let alone I look at my living room filled with toys and can't help but wonder if any of those toys have something toxic on/in them!

Mattel Adds 9 Million Toys To Recall
Polly Pocket, Barbie, Batman Toys In Recall

UPDATED: 10:27 am EDT August 14, 2007

NEW YORK -- Threats from powerful magnets and lead paint led Mattel to recall more than 9 million toys on Tuesday, just weeks after it recalled 1 million other products.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that magnets can come loose and be swallowed in more than 7 million Polly Pocket toys, 680,000 Barbie and Tanner sets, 1 million Doggie Daycare sets and 350,000 Batman figures.

The surface pain on 250,000 Sarge cars from the movie "Cars" were also added to the recall.

The CPSC said that no injuries had been reported on the toys, and that they were recalled in large numbers to prevent any from occurring.

Swallowed magnets can cause intestinal blockages and high levels of lead can hinder development.

Mattel ordered an immediate halt to sale of the toys and that they be pulled from shelves. The CPSC said the company would make production changes to prevent future problems. It also offered free replacements of affected toys.

The company has a complete list of recalled toys on its Web site. It also has a tool that can help you determine if you have recalled toys in your home.

Mattel is the world's largest toy maker, and the affected toys were made in China.

On Aug. 1, Mattel's Fisher-Price division recalled 1.5 million preschool toys featuring characters such as Dora the Explorer, Big Bird and Elmo.

According to three people close to the matter, the latest recall involves a different Chinese supplier.

A new Mattel recall marks the latest in a string of recalls that have rocked the toy industry just as it prepares for the critical holiday season.

With more than 80 percent of toys sold worldwide made in China, toy sellers are nervous that shoppers will shy away from their products.

Be careful with what kind of metal the pot and pan are made of, they could leach something hazardous!

We actually have one of the Sarge toys. Luckily, we haven't given it to DS yet. We spent a lot of time collecting the cars, so we'll just keep that one hidden away with the rest of the poisonous stuff we have in the house.... Chat Icon

Re: new recall on Mattel toys

Pffft, I am just getting a plain box for her.

Does anyone have a link that shows pics? That one posted above is the recall from a couple of weeks ago. We have a lot of the CARS cars, and I believe we have a Sarge. I know we have tons of batman toys, but I have no idea which ones are toxic.

The Magnet toys...are those like Magnetix? I know that those had a recall a while back but we have a huge tub that have the "safety warning" on them which was supposed to be the replacement for the recalled ones. I thought those were made by Mega Bloks, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm really annoyed by this. We have a TON of toys and it seems all of them are made in China. It makes me wonder what else was painted with lead paint that we don't know about. And what irks me, is that Fisher Price expects you to get a box and package it up to send it back. They provide a shipping label, but still. Like my swing..I have yet to find a box big enough for it and I don't really want to BUY one. Chat Icon

If it says it's from China, and the code is xxx7 EA, then it's recalled. Any other combo of the last 3 characters is OK.

We have a recalled Sarge, but we spent a lot of time collecting these cars, so I just hid it away. We never gave it to DS (we use them as bribes on occasion... Chat Icon Chat Icon ), so he won't miss it.
