25 kids is not a statistically significant sample size.

Thanks for the article.
Makes me feel better about vaccinations.
How sad though that small babies are getting measles because of other peoples choices.

not necessarily true....
I am not immune--no matter how many times they give it to me I am not immune same for my friend. I also think adults thinking their shots from childhood are good enough come into play.

Re: New study re: autism and measles
What does one have to do with the other? Cause an adult can be immune, is that a reason not to vaccinate our kids? I'm just curious on the thinking behind this.
It's the herd mentality that some parents have with vaccines that is going to cause more and more outbreaks of diseases that vaccines made disappear. Herd mentality being all the kids around m y kids are vaccinated so i won't vaccinate mine for whatever reason. The more and more kids unvaccinated, the more chance of these diseases coming back and mutating and infecting us all over again.
I'm glad this study came out, but of course its going to be picked apart by people and groups who still the believe the risk of vaccines still FAR outweighs the benefits.
Part of parenting classes should be making parents to be watch videos and see what these diseases we vaccinate for can do to us and our children.
Did you know MOre people died from the flu after WWI then the men who fought in it, people lost whole families to the FLU! Just an example.

This study was to mimic the one done in 1998 that showed the link.....

Re: New study re: autism and measles
I understand your point... my point...there is mercury in the flu shot...and eggs...so thats not happening.. by all means anyone else can do it. I was confused by your post. I meant I was not immune--I didnt write I was immune.. My point was there are millions of adults not utd on their vaccinations. and to play devils advocate, if my body rejects the shot should I never go out again? i think its a gray area is all. Kids cannot go to school unvaccinated. I VACCINATE***I SIMPLY SPACE. I am capping that because I can see people mis-interepreting my point. not you...just anyone. I do not believe in 3 shots at once..if there is a reaction I won't know what the reaction was to. BUT..there are people whose body reject the shot is all.
edited to add---I do give the MMR spaced...to avoid confusion.
by the way in alll honesty this was jmho to let others sometimes they do not take...not to not vaccinate

Re: New study re: autism and measles
If I am a parent who vaccinates I would not have to worry about the ones who dont! Its the ones that dont that are taking a risk withthere own child.. Its there decision....

Well that is partly true - but even in general if a parent vaccinates there is concern that if the shot didn't take effect for some reason then the child could have a problem - but importantly if these diseases make a comeback - parents with kids who are too young to vaccinate will be at risk as well as those who don't vaccinate.

I was just thinking this as I was reading this. My DD is too young to vaccinate for measles and with the outbreak that is out there right now, I am concerned that she could pick it up somewhere. My older cousin almost died from the measles when he was a baby. He was in the hospital for a week and they weren't sure that he was going to make it. So that story is a little close to home from my perspective -its not a random statistic - its a family member who was effected.
I don't know though, I understand the concerns of both sides of the issue... I feel like its a catch 22.

not really, like another poster said, what if your child is too young or sick to get vaccinated...these other unvaccinated kids CAN spread diseases to your child....

yes...jumpiing in...I gotcha! but if u are not immune which Ii am sure its rare, its just I know three people. and we won't even talk about the people coming in from other countries not vaccinated. I still think they need to come up with a schedule based on genetic background---familiy illnesses and such--not a one size fits all schedule. Any young child wouldn't have that shot yet anyhow
edited to add: my brother got whopping cough from his pediatrician when he was younger...guess he was not up to date...AND A DOCTOR! kwim?

That's exactly the definition of the HERD MENTALITY point i was trying to make.
If more and more people think the opposite way you do, well everyone else vaccinates so my kid will be protected, the pool of unvaccinated kids gets higher and higher and along with lots of other instances where a disease we vaccinate for can make its way back into this country, all those UNvaccinated kids can be carriers and start an outbreak. KWIM?
All we would need is more and more outbreaks of the diseases we vaccinate for, all it takes is one mutation and NONE of us are protected anymore.
AND-Lastchance- there are FLU vaccines with NO MERCURY/preservatives in them. My kids get them.
Here is a chart with ALL the vaccines and their contents a cousin sent to me. FDA website CONTENT of vaccines

Re: New study re: autism and measles
Thank God i do believe in vaccinating certain things but only in single dose vials.. But it is the choice of the parent thats the bottom line.. I believe where there is smoke there is fire.. something is up with this.. I do admitt I personally need to educate myself even more
