new teacher know it all!
ugh, i was giving her the benefit of the doubt and being nice, but i left school so agravated today! She corrected me today by adding an accent mark where I left one out while I was in the room and then was like "i hope you don't mind, im a stickler for accent marks". of course i said, no it's ok, but i was so annoyed!! she's also made other comments to me that i didn't appreciate. I'm a FL teacher, but a non-native speaker. She is from Spain. Today we were discussing something and I said "oh well that's how I learned it in school and many of my teachers were hispanic" and she said "well there's a difference between hispanic and spanish!" i said to her IN SPANISH, "just because I'm blonde and american , doesn't mean I don't know that there is a difference"! we share a room so when she has her prep periods she sits in the room and watches my lesson. I wouldn't care if it was anyone else in my department, but now that she has corrected me and questioned me , I hate that she's there! it's going to be a looooooooooong year! ugh...sorry had to vent!

Re: new teacher know it all!
I know in my district, teachers can not sit in the room "prepping" while other teachers teach - it is against union policy. Does your district have a similar policy? If so, I would politely let her know that she can not spend her preps in the room while you are teaching.

Our district does not have that policy as far as I know. Many teachers sit in the rooms while others are teaching since so many of us have to share. thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: new teacher know it all!
how annoying, rude and disrespectful of her
not sureI have any advice. hopefully you can work out something that puts a stop to her being there.
If you told her you were uncomfortable with her there, it would probably give her an ego boost
dont let her get you down.

She has NO RIGHT to sit in your room during your lesson. That's highly unusual and very rude. Talk to her about it and if it doesn't change, go over her head.

Re: new teacher know it all!
As another non-native LOTE teacher I have been through the same things with the natives. It's like I have to prove that I am worthy of being a LOTE teacher just because I am not native, meanwhile I have been there 12 years and my classes are ALWAYS maxed because there are tons of parental requests for me.
With that being said. I would wait a week and then tell her that her presences is in intimidating the children. You have had students come up to you and tell you that they are not comfortable with her being in the room and that you would appreciate her making use of the faculty rooms while you are teaching.
What a bytch.
