New to New Hyde Park -- looking for childcare for baby

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, pretty new to Long Island and a new mom. We just moved to New Hyde Park in June.

My daughter is almost 6 months old, and her dad (my boyfriend) and I both work full-time (but from home most of the time, luckily). We found a great babysitter who comes to our house Monday-Friday right away when we first moved here, but she's going back to college and we've had no luck finding the right person to replace her.

We don't really want to send her to daycare, especially since one of the perks of getting to work from home often is that we get to take mini breaks to see her throughout the day. I have called around to local daycares just in case we're out of options, though. The only one I've found with an opening for her right now is Learn & Play in Mineola -- and after doing some research on this site, I've seen that it has some mixed reviews. Anyone care to share their experience?

If you know of any babysitters that you could recommend, it'd be very helpful. We'd prefer someone pretty local, and we'd prefer a younger babysitter -- like under 25 (we've had good experiences with college students). I've been on Care.com and Craigslist.

And also, I know nobody around here except my boyfriend's family! I'd love to get to know some local moms with babies close to my daughter's age.

I know someone looking for a job, but she is 33. She is brazilian and speaks english fluently. Reliable and friendly. Send me a private message with your contact info and I'd be happy to put you in touch with her.
