New to This Board
Hi everyone. DH and I have been TTC a second baby for almost a year now. We had out first DD in 2014--we got pregnant with her after 4 months of TTC with only using OPKs. I'm 32, DH is 33. I feel like we should go to a RE but I'm not sure how to start that whole process. Looking forward to getting advice from you ladies
UPDATE: I have my first appt on 8/8. I'm excited to get the ball rolling and see what's going on.

Re: New to This Board
If you've been trying that long and no luck, it can't hurt to get started with an RE. All you have to do is call and make an appt! The first visit is usually mostly talking, taking history. Probably an exam and blood woork, depending on where you are in your cycle. Your husband would also get a SA done. Once you have some of the baseline information, the RE would propose a course and you could decide when/if to start and how aggressive you want to be.
Good luck!

Thank you. I've read some mixed reviews on them. Do you have experience with them?

Glad you came over here. See what your insurance covers. Some covers diagnostic, some doesn't, and some covers procedures. I would make an appointment with a RE near you that has some good reviews and ask for a work up. They will start off with some blood work to see if there are ay issues. They may then send you for an HSG to check your tubes. Hubby will get a seman analysis. If an issue shows up in your blood work your RE might be able to prescribe meds to help. With hubby I would just tell him you want to have some tests to see what is going on. Secondary infertility is absolutely a thing. Update us when you can. I have been putting up a weekly check in.

Thanks girls!
I have Empire/NYSHIP so I think I have great IF coverage. This is from my insurance website...
Services for treatment of infertility Performed at a Center of Excellence with authorization: 100% of eligible expenses and a $50,000 lifetime hospital / medical / surgical maximum per covered person Travel allowance is available when traveling more than 100 miles subject to lifetime maximum Performed by a network provider with authorization: 100% of eligible expenses subject to $20 copayment and a $50,000 lifetime hospital / medical / surgical maximum per covered person Qualified procedures: · In-Vitro Fertilization Gamete (GIFT) · Zygote intrafallopian transfer procedures (ZIFT) · Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) · Assisting hatching · Microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA) · Testicular sperm extraction (TESE) · Cryopreservation · Storage of sperm, or embryos
Artificial/Intrauterine Insemination Performed at a Center of Excellence - 100% of eligible expenses not subject to a copayment Performed by a network provider - 100% of eligible expenses subject to $20 copayment
I think I am going to try Dr. San Roman's office in Smithtown. I've heard a lot of good things about him, both on LIF and from someone IRL. I will update after my appt.

YUP, thats the best insurance I've seen posted on here. Usually the LI teachers have that. It's a great plan. I've seen ladies on here with that plan do many many cycles and get everything covered. Hopefully the diagnostics will show something that's an easy fix.

I have NYSHIP and see Dr. San Roman. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him and his office. To give you an idea of how far that 50k lifetime limit goes, I did 3 fresh IVF rounds and still have more left on my insurance. The nice thing is that your meds are covered under your regular prescription plan. Good luck and if you have any questions about his office please feel free to message me!

Thank you! That's good to know. And it's really like $100,000 bc DH is covered too. I didn't realize the meds were covered under rx plan--that's awesome.

Yay that's great you have an appointment. Definitely a good idea to get some tests done and see what the issue is. What practice did you decide on?
