New to this preschool thing, is it okay to send him?
DS has his first day of preschool tomorrow---he caught a cold a week ago (Sunday)--no fever/cough but still has a bit of a residual runny nose. Do you think it's okay to send him? Thanks--I am totally new to this!

Totally fine. He'd never go if you kept him home for every runny nose and/or cough. It's so hard to keep them 100% once school starts.

I think its fine. My DD got a cold Wed, and she has a slight bit of congestion left, and I'm sending her Tues.

I think it depends on the preschool - ours has a no runny nose policy - it does keep the kids home but they almost never get sick from school. I think if he has had a cold for a week he should be okay - but does your preschool have any rules on that?

I was told by one school any runny nose, you will get a call. Anything other then clear isn't that contagious?

No. According to my DD's allergist, yellow and green are also from old mucus- like in the morning when it's been sitting overnight in the nasal passages.
Our preschool has a no fever/vomiting rulde for 24 hours prior. I cannot imagine how many days my DD would miss for a run of the mill runny nose.

It was mainly b.c of the swine flu - but if they have had a cold for a few days and the ped says they are clear to return the school will have them back - actually most of the children missed very little school this past year.
